SOLT STS-100FM Mat Sensor and Transmitter Installation Guidelines

Proper deployment of the SOLT STS-100FM wireless mat sensor system requires coordinated positioning of both the floor pressure-sensing element and the wall-mounted SB6-series wireless transmitter enclosure. Designed for high-dependency patient care environments, clinical wards, and washroom safety points, the system establishes a rapid-response alerting perimeter when connected to central monitoring infrastructure.

Pre-Installation Floor Mat Positioning

The pressure-sensitive mat component contains an integrated foot-operated electric contact switch assembly designed for direct horizontal placement on indoor floor surfaces. Position the mat completely flat without folding or creasing at targeted monitoring thresholds. Typical deployment areas include the immediate bedside zone to detect unauthorized patient egress, next to recliner chairs, or across the threshold of washrooms and toilets where fall risks are elevated.

Ensure the subfloor beneath the mat is smooth, level, and free of sharp obstructions that could distort or puncture the plastic mat contact layer under foot pressure. The mat must rest flush along the floor surface to prevent edge curling or accidental tripping by patients and clinical personnel.

Transmitter Enclosure Wall Mounting

The SB6-series wireless transmitter module serves as the local communication hub and features integrated Call and Cancel buttons. Mount the transmitter securely to the wall or architectural fixture within strict physical reach of the sensing mat:

Cable Radius Limits: The foot step-button cable interconnecting the floor mat to the transmitter has a fixed length of 1.4 meters. Secure the transmitter base to the wall surface at a height and lateral offset that avoids mechanical tension or strain on this 1.4-meter lead.
Cable Pathway Management: Route the 1.4-meter connection wire cleanly against baseboards or along perimeter wall trim using surface raceways or cable clips. This prevents moving equipment, carts, or pedestrian traffic from snagging the interface cable.
Auxiliary Pull Cord Attachment: If the transmitter is configured with an auxiliary twisted pull cord assembly, ensure the cord hangs unobstructed. The extended length reaches up to 1.0 meter, offering accessible manual activation for seated or fallen occupants.
Cancel Button Clearance: Mount the transmitter at an accessible service height to allow nursing staff immediate access to the separate dedicated Cancel button to clear active call states upon arrival.

Wireless Integration and Signal Testing

The transmitter operates on a carrier frequency of 434.6500 MHz utilizing FSK modulation with an RF transmission output power under 10 mW, achieving point-to-point wireless transmission ranges up to 150 meters in open areas. Complete the RF commissioning sequence by enrolling the STS-100FM with destination receivers:

Enroll the transmitter unique identifier into the facility's SOLT SM3 series central display receivers or nurse station monitoring terminals.
Assign call addresses to portable mobile staff alert units, including SOLT SP5, SP7, and SP9 series wrist and belt pagers.
In multi-ward layouts, reinforced concrete structures, or expansive corridors, verify RF path margins. If RF attenuation is observed, position SOLT SR5 signal repeater stations (such as SR5-MPR or SR5-BPR) midway along transmission routes to bridge signal coverage to central display units.

Functional Commissioning and Power Verification

Once physically mounted and addressed, conduct functional walk-testing. Apply direct foot pressure to the floor mat to trigger the electric contact switch; observe immediate RF signal generation and logging at the SM3 display receiver and associated mobile pagers. Depress the separate Cancel button on the transmitter unit to confirm that the active alarm condition resets cleanly across the monitoring system.

Confirm transmitter battery installation before sealing the module. Operational battery life is rated between 1 and 3 years depending on alert activation frequency (replacement batteries are not included). Verify that the transmitter housing is fully closed and securely latched to protect internal electronics before releasing the monitoring location for clinical service.

SOLT STS-100FM Wireless Mat Sensor Deployment & Industrial Healthcare Use Cases

The SOLT STS-100FM wireless mat sensor system combines a heavy-duty electric contact floor-sensing mat with an SB6-series RF transmitter module to deliver automated, real-time fall detection and egress alerting. Operating over a 434.6500 MHz FSK radio frequency link with an RF output power under 10 mW and transmission range up to 150 meters, the system provides instantaneous event signaling without the tripping hazards or routing constraints of structural field wiring.

Patient Bed Egress and Fall Alerting in Hospital Wards

In acute care, post-surgical, and general hospital wards, unassisted bed egress represents a primary operational risk for patient falls. The STS-100FM pressure-sensitive floor mat is placed flat immediately adjacent to patient beds or low-clearance recovery stretchers. When a patient steps onto the mat or falls from the mattress surface, the integrated foot-operated electric contact switch instantly triggers.

The signal travels along the 1.4-meter connecting cable to the wall-mounted transmitter unit, which dispatches an immediate RF call message across the facility. Because the wall unit features a separate dedicated Cancel button, responding clinical personnel can verify the patient's condition on-site and manually clear the alert at the bedside, ensuring accountable staff attendance before the transmission state is reset.

Patient Washrooms, Toilets, and Wet Room Supervision

Wet environments such as private washrooms, ward toilets, and wet rooms present acute slipping risks where conventional wall-mounted push-buttons may be out of reach after a fall. The STS-100FM is deployed across bathroom thresholds or directly beneath high-risk transition zones to monitor patient footing.

For installations where immediate manual activation is also required alongside foot-stepping detection, the transmitter assembly accommodates a twisted pull cord extended up to 1.0 meter in length. If an individual slips or collapses to the floor, either direct contact with the step-sensing mat or tension applied to the pull cord triggers an immediate high-priority alert to care teams.

Wandering Detection and Egress Control in Memory Care Facilities

Specialized dementia wards, memory care units, and assisted living facilities require discreet, uninhibited monitoring of exits, restricted corridors, and room doorways. The flat sensor mat is positioned at the perimeter of the room or across doorway thresholds to detect wandering behaviors during overnight shifts.

Stepping onto the electric contact mat alerts nursing staff to ambulatory movements before a vulnerable resident reaches stairwells, exterior egress points, or hazardous service zones. The autonomous transmitter battery operates between 1 and 3 years depending on activation volume (they are not included), ensuring sustained perimeter monitoring without continuous hardwired power dependencies.

Centralized Nurse Station Dispatch and Mobile Caregiver Paging

The STS-100FM integrates directly into facility-wide wireless calling infrastructures without requiring custom software integration. When an activation occurs, the transmitter broadcasts FSK data to centralized SOLT receivers and roving teams:

Central Nurse Displays: Transmits bed and room identification numbers directly to SOLT SM3 series central display receivers and PC-based nurse station consoles.
Roving Caregiver Pagers: Direct RF transmission delivers immediate text alerts to SOLT SP5, SP7, and SP9 series portable wrist receivers and belt pagers worn by mobile nurses.
Long-Range Facility Coverage: For multi-story wings or expansive ward layouts, signals route transparently through SOLT SR5 auxiliary signal repeater stations to eliminate RF dead spots.
