Site Preparation, Mechanical Anchoring, and Installation for ZKTeco FBL700

Proper deployment of the ZKTeco FBL700 single-lane flap barrier turnstile requires precise structural site preparation, accurate conduit pre-routing, and rigid mechanical anchoring. Designed for high-volume pedestrian access control, the physical turnstile casework measures 1200 mm in length, 300 mm in width, and 980 mm in height, establishing a standard 600 mm pedestrian passage lane width. Adherence to manufacturer installation specifications ensures long-term operational integrity and maintains the 5-million cycle MCBF mechanical rating.

Foundation Requirements and Spatial Clearances

The turnstile unit must be anchored to a horizontal, solid concrete platform. Manufacturer guidelines recommend casting a flat, level mounting base with an elevated height between 50 mm and 100 mm above finished floor level. This platform prevents moisture accumulation and provides a stable structural bed for the anchoring hardware.

  • Wall Maintenance Clearance: A minimum clearance distance of 100 mm must be maintained between the turnstile cabinet and any adjacent wall or rigid partition. This 100 mm space is required to ensure that service personnel can fully unlock and open the top lid for mechanical servicing, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Passage Geometry: The installation layout must allocate a dedicated 600 mm lane width between barrier cabinet faces to facilitate rated pedestrian throughput speeds of up to 30 people per minute.
  • Operating Environment: The system is rated for indoor and sheltered outdoor environments across an ambient working temperature range of -28°C to 60°C and a non-condensing relative humidity of 5% to 80%. The turnstile must not be installed in corrosive environments.

Conduit Routing and Power Infrastructure

All wiring infrastructure must be stubbed up and positioned prior to securing the barrier chassis to the concrete plinth. Cabling requires pulling the primary AC power supply lines and network Ethernet drops through a φ25mm PVC conduit routed directly beneath the cabinet footprint.

Installers must feed both the power cable and Ethernet communication cabling out of the conduit embedment and route them securely into the turnstile cabinet wire slot before fastening down the unit. The system operates on AC 100–120V or AC 200–240V at 50/60Hz. The internal grounding terminal must be bonded with a dedicated, low-impedance ground wire connection to prevent electrical hazards and equipment damage. If automatic retraction during utility power outages is required, a compatible backup battery (they are not included) must be integrated into the designated power backup terminal circuit.

Chassis Access and Mechanical Anchoring Procedure

Mounting access requires accessing the interior structural frame through keyed cabinet entry points:

  1. Insert the provided key to unlock and lift the black baking-painted SPCC top lid.
  2. Insert the key into the lock mechanism to release the front lid, then detach and remove the hanging front lid panel from the SUS304 stainless steel cabinet.
  3. Align the turnstile over the stubbed φ25mm cabling conduit, aligning the pre-drilled chassis mounting slots with the foundation template.
  4. Mark and drill the foundation holes to accommodate 8 sets of M12 expansion bolts.
  5. Insert the M12 expansion bolts into the drilled floor holes through the chassis base slots, then fit the matching washers and nuts.
  6. Firmly secure and torque all 8 bolt assemblies using a standard mechanical wrench until the SUS304 cabinet is completely rigid and immobilized.

Pedestrian Flow Demarcation and Post-Installation Checks

Once mechanical bolting and wiring are finalized, site contractors should paint or affix an optical warning line on the finished floor in front of the entry approach. This visual demarcation instructs oncoming users to queue outside the threshold until the previous user completes credential verification, steps through the 600 mm lane, and clears the acrylic barrier zone.

Before commissioning the turnstile for live traffic, verify the LCD on the internal flap barrier control board to confirm system parameters and test gate opening timing (rated at 0.8 seconds at ≤30 dB noise level). Conduct a systematic mechanical and electrical audit:

  • Inspect and verify that the protective ground wire bonding is firmly secured at all metal chassis connection points.
  • Check all wiring termination blocks, circuit board connector assemblies, and plug harnesses to eliminate loose leads.
  • Inspect all moving barrier pivot mechanisms and upward retracting acrylic arm assemblies.
  • Recheck and retighten any loose nuts, mounting screws, and mechanical fasteners to prevent operational faults under cyclic operation.
