Pre-Use Inspection and Fall Indicator Protocols
Routine pre-use inspection is mandatory for the Udyogi Tango II (Tango 2) full body harness to ensure ongoing operational safety in fall arrest and ladder climbing applications. Before donning the harness, competent personnel must conduct a thorough visual and tactile examination of the high-strength polyester webbing, which measures 44 ± 1 mm in width and possesses a rated breaking strength of 23 kN.
Inspect all primary load-bearing points, paying critical attention to the white high tenacity virgin multifilament polyester stitching threads across the shoulder, chest, and thigh connection zones. Verify that there are no pulled stitches, broken threads, abrasions, or chemical cuts. Inspect the metallic hardware—including the rear dorsal fall arrest D-ring, the two sternal chest D-rings, and the adjustment buckles across the chest, shoulders, and horizontal H-shaped thigh straps—for signs of distortion, burrs, cracks, or surface corrosion.
The Udyogi Tango II features an integrated built-in fall indicator engineered for fast, reliable visual assessment. Prior to every operational shift, inspectors must verify the status of this deployment indicator:
- Intact Fall Indicator: The harness has not experienced an impact arrest load and remains eligible for continued height safety deployment within its 100 kg safe working load envelope.
- Deployed Fall Indicator: Indicates that the assembly has sustained dynamic shock forces equivalent to an arrest event (such as dynamic drop testing against a 100 kg mass dummy across a 4-metre free fall). A deployed indicator requires that the harness be removed from service immediately and permanently decommissioned.
Cleaning and Surface Care Procedures
Maintaining the structural integrity of the 44 mm polyester straps requires proper surface cleaning protocols to prevent particulate accumulation within the synthetic weave.
- Use a clean piece of cloth to wipe off dust, dirt, surface grime, and worksite debris after every shift.
- Do not subject the harness to abrasive mechanical scouring or unapproved chemical solvents that could degrade the polyester fibres or compromise the white virgin multifilament polyester structural stitching.
- Keep the ergonomic H-shaped thigh straps and low-slung sub-pelvic strap free of grit that could impede smooth hardware operation through the size-adjustment buckles.
Storage and Environmental Control
Environmental factors such as excessive thermal exposure and ultraviolet radiation can accelerate fibre breakdown and weaken synthetic safety equipment. To ensure the harness retains its mechanical properties:
- Store the harness in a clean, dry area fully shielded from ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
- Never store the equipment in areas subject to direct sunlight or high, concentrated heat, as continuous thermal exposure and direct UV rays can cause colour distortion and degrade high-tenacity synthetic yarns.
- Protect the equipment against airborne industrial contaminants and damp holding conditions to safeguard both the polyester webbing and the metallic fall arrest rings.
Packaging, Transport, and Corrosion Management
Whenever moving equipment between facilities or placing units into seasonal reserve, store and transport harnesses in their original packaging cartons (standard master cartons contain 10 pieces). Transporting the harness inside its dedicated carton provides a protective barrier against external atmospheric moisture, excessive ambient heat, and extreme cold, preventing corrosion on the dorsal D-ring, twin sternal D-rings, and adjustment mating buckles.
Label Maintenance and Traceability Audits
The permanent product label affixed to the Tango II harness provides critical identification data required during periodic regulatory safety audits conforming to EN 361:2002 and IS 3521 (Part 1): 2021 / IS 3521:1999. Ensure the label remains intact, clean, and legible. The marking records essential regulatory data including:
- Manufacturer identification and mailing address (Udyogi)
- Model designation (Tango II / Tango 2) and material specification (Polyester)
- Production batch number, individual serial number, and year of manufacture
- Standards compliance and official BIS ISI certification markings
