Pre-Installation Environmental and Placement Requirements
The GST DI-9204E Digital Manual Call Point is engineered as an EN 54-11 compliant Type A initiating device designed strictly for indoor installation within commercial facilities, escape corridors, stairwells, and industrial plant spaces. The unit holds an IP43 ingress protection rating and is rated for operating environments spanning -10°C to +55°C with a relative humidity threshold of up to 95% non-condensing. In exposed external locations or harsh environments, the assembly must be housed inside the optional D-92WPB weatherproof enclosure box. Where risk of accidental mechanical contact exists, the optional D-92FC hinged transparent flip cover can be integrated.
Mechanical Mounting Configurations
The DI-9204E incorporates an ABS enclosure in a red finish and utilizes a modular plug-in architecture separating the operational call point body from its wiring base. Installers can deploy the unit in two primary physical configurations depending on wall infrastructure:
- Surface Mounting: Mount the included red surface back box directly to the structural substrate. Total assembly dimensions with the back box fitted are 87.1 mm (L) × 87.1 mm (W) × 58.5 mm (H), with an installed weight of approximately 160 g. Align wall fixings with the standard 60 mm mounting hole pitch distance.
- Conduit Embedded (Semi-Flush) Mounting: Secure the terminal base directly onto a standard recessed electrical back box. Without the rear surface box, the unit measures 87.1 mm (L) × 87.1 mm (W) × 23.5 mm (H) and weighs approximately 107 g, maintaining the identical 60 mm mounting hole spacing.
Loop Wiring and Terminal Termination
The manual call point interfaces with addressable fire alarm loops through two non-polarized terminals designated as Z1 and Z2. Polarity insensitivity eliminates site termination errors when tying into loop circuits from compatible intelligent control panels, such as the GST200N, GST-IFP4E, or GST DI-9000E series.
| Parameter | Specification / Requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating Loop Voltage | 24 VDC nominal (16 VDC to 28 VDC operating range) |
| Standby Current | ≤ 0.6 mA |
| Alarm Current | ≤ 1.8 mA |
| Wiring Specification | Fire-resistant 2-core cable, 1.0 mm² or above (0.5 mm² minimum subject to local electrical codes) |
| Terminal Designation | Z1, Z2 (Non-polarized loop connection) |
Electronic Addressing and Commissioning
Field addressing must be completed prior to locking the call point body into the terminal base. The DI-9204E supports electronic addresses from 1 to 242. Addresses are written into non-volatile device memory using the handheld GST P-9910B programmer (ordered separately). Ensure that unique addresses are allocated along the SLC loop to avoid communication fault reporting on the host panel. Once addressed and powered by the 16 VDC – 28 VDC loop, verify normal monitoring status: the integrated red LED indicator must flash once every 3 seconds.
Testing and Mechanical Key Reset Procedure
The unit features a reusable, non-break-glass operating action plate (frangible element) that eliminates the downtime and material expense of replacing glass panes during mandatory commissioning trials and routine servicing. Pressing the central action plate initiates a manual alarm: the red LED switches from flashing to steady illumination, and the panel registers the unique address.
To reset the device after functional testing or emergency activation:
- Locate the keyed reset aperture at the bottom of the front call point housing.
- Insert the supplied special reset key vertically into the aperture.
- Push the key inward and rotate it clockwise until the internal mechanism trips and the front operating plate rebounds flush.
- Turn the reset key counter-clockwise and withdraw it. Confirm that the LED returns to its periodic 3-second flash cycle and clear the latched condition at the fire alarm control panel.
