Maintenance, Calibration & Field Service Procedures

The Honeywell BW Solo Wireless CO gas detector is engineered for rapid field serviceability without requiring disassembly of the main instrument casing. Routine upkeep is essential to ensure sensor responsiveness across its 0 to 2,000 ppm Carbon Monoxide measurement range and to preserve intrinsic safety and ingress integrity in hazardous industrial operating zones.

Sensor Filter Inspection and Tool-Free Replacement

Particulate and moisture filters on the front of the detector protect the 1-Series electrochemical Carbon Monoxide sensor from process dust, aerosols, and fluid contamination. A blocked or saturated filter membrane is a primary cause of sluggish gas diffusion and calibration failures. Technicians can replace the external sensor filter in seconds without using screwdrivers or opening the primary electronics housing. Simply release and pop off the front filter access door, inspect or replace the filter membrane, and firmly seat the cover back in place. Proper alignment of the sensor access door is required to maintain the certified IP66 and IP68 dust-tight and water-immersion seal (tested to 1.2 meters for 45 minutes).

Bump Testing and Sensor Calibration Schedule

Operational safety protocols mandate performing a functional bump test before each daily entry or shift. The bump test verifies that the 1-Series sensor responds to target gas and confirms that the visual alarm bars, vibration motor, and 95 dB (at 30 cm) audible alarm buzzer actuate properly. Full span and zero calibration must be performed at least every 6 months, or whenever the detector fails a bump test.

Manual calibration can be carried out using certified Carbon Monoxide calibration gas and the included test cap with 1-foot connection hose. During calibration, the single-button interface navigates through the calibration menu, and the detector automatically evaluates sensor response and updates baseline zero and span data points across its rolling 24-hour peak reading and event tracking memory.

Automated Fleet Maintenance via IntelliDoX Docking System

For industrial fleet deployments, the detector is fully compatible with the Honeywell IntelliDoX automated docking and management system. Placing the instrument into an IntelliDoX nest allows safety teams to automate daily bump tests, complete span calibrations, update user alarm set points (Low, High, TWA, STEL), and transfer audit records. Technicians can also utilize the integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) link to connect wirelessly from up to 6 meters using the Honeywell Safety Communicator app, Device Configurator app, or Honeywell SafetySuite enterprise software to export the 50-event log or review up to 6 months of continuous data logging recorded at 5-second intervals.

Power Supply and Lithium Cell Replacement

The BW Solo Wireless detector is powered by a 2/3AA 3.6V 1.65Ah lithium cell battery (they are not included), delivering approximately 12 months of continuous operational runtime under typical conditions. Battery replacement must strictly take place in a designated non-hazardous, gas-free location to comply with hazardous location safety standards (Class I, Division 1 / Zone 0 and ATEX/IECEx Ex ia IIC T4 Ga). When replacing the exhausted cell, install an approved 2/3AA 3.6V lithium cell battery (they are not included), verify correct contact polarity, and secure the housing to maintain electrical containment.

Routine Cleaning and Mechanical Inspection

Inspect the concussion-proof composite housing and heavy-duty stainless-steel alligator clip on a monthly basis for physical damage, cracking, or chemical degradation. Clean the instrument exterior using a soft cloth dampened with clean water; never use harsh solvents, abrasive cleaners, or petrochemical degreasers that can degrade the housing or contaminate the electrochemical sensor. Ensure the audible alarm aperture remains clear of compacted dirt and grease to maintain full 95 dB alarm audibility across operating conditions spanning -40°C to +60°C and 5% to 95% non-condensing relative humidity.
