Package Inventory and Pre-Commissioning Verification
Before deploying the Honeywell BW Solo wireless carbon monoxide (CO) detector into field operations, verify all standard package components against the packing manifest. The factory shipment includes the detector fitted with a 1-Series square electrochemical CO sensor, an integrated stainless-steel alligator clip, a specialized calibration/test cap with a 1-foot hose, and a quick reference guide. Inspect the concussion-proof composite housing and front filter access door for physical integrity prior to powering the unit.
Wearable Positioning and Breathing Zone Mounting
The Honeywell BW Solo is engineered as a wearable personal compliance monitor. To achieve accurate exposure readings, the unit must be positioned within the operator's breathing zone (a 25 cm to 30 cm radius around the mouth and nose). Utilize the heavy-duty rear stainless-steel alligator clip to fasten the instrument securely to personal protective equipment (PPE), coveralls, lapels, chest straps, or safety harnesses.
With a compact profile measuring 7.0 cm x 6.7 cm x 3.6 cm (2.7 in x 2.6 in x 1.4 in) and an overall weight of approximately 103 grams (3.6 ounces), the instrument minimizes snag risks and user fatigue during extended operations. Ensure the front diffusion aperture of the 1-Series CO sensor remains unobstructed by outer garments, high-visibility vests, or tool holsters.
Power Supply Installation
Instrument operation requires a 2/3AA 3.6V 1.65Ah lithium cell battery (they are not included). This power source supplies up to 12 months of operational life under typical continuous operating conditions. When servicing or replacing the battery (they are not included), perform maintenance strictly within designated non-hazardous, gas-free environments to maintain electrical safety ratings in accordance with Class I, Division 1 and ATEX/IECEx Zone 0 directives.
Docking Station Integration and Functional Testing
Prior to daily entry into active industrial zones, execute a mandatory functional bump test or full calibration to ensure sensor diffusion integrity and alarm responsiveness. The Honeywell BW Solo supports two operational commissioning workflows:
- Automated IntelliDoX Docking: Insert the detector directly into a compatible Honeywell IntelliDoX automated docking station. The system automatically reads device records, conducts rapid bump tests, performs CO span calibration using test gas, configures operational parameters, and archives compliance logs.
- Manual Commissioning: Attach the provided calibration/test cap and 1-foot hose directly over the front sensor faceplate. Apply verified carbon monoxide calibration gas according to specified concentration guidelines, utilizing the single-button interface—which is fully navigable while wearing industrial work gloves.
Wireless BLE Connectivity and System Integration
The integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) transceiver provides short-range telemetry and instrument setup capabilities up to 6 meters. Pair the wireless BW Solo with the Honeywell Safety Communicator app or Device Configurator software on supported Android or iOS mobile devices. This connection transmits live 0 to 2,000 ppm CO concentrations, rolling 24-hour peak readings, and alarm states directly to the Honeywell SafetySuite monitoring infrastructure.
Environmental Operating Parameters
Ensure installation environments remain within the certified physical limits: continuous operational temperatures from -40°C to +60°C (-40°F to +140°F) and relative humidity levels between 5% and 95% non-condensing. The enclosure provides ingress protection rated at IP66 and IP68, capable of withstanding water submersion up to 1.2 meters for 45 minutes.
