Industrial Applications and Deployment Profiles

The Honeywell BW Solo BLE Wireless Oxygen (O2) detector is engineered for continuous personal atmospheric monitoring across industrial facilities where oxygen displacement, asphyxiation, or oxidizer-enriched atmospheres present critical personnel hazards. Operating across a measurement range of 0.0% to 30.0% v/v with 0.1% v/v resolution, the instrument delivers continuous, diffusion-sampled environmental surveillance directly within the worker’s breathing zone.

Confined Space Entry and Atmospheric Verification

Personnel entering storage tanks, process vessels, underground utility vaults, sewers, and pipelines face severe hazards from oxygen depletion caused by oxidation, biological decomposition, or inert gas migration. Mounted via its heavy-duty stainless steel alligator clip to coverall lapels or safety harness webbing, the unit provides hands-free continuous monitoring. Standard factory alarm thresholds trigger immediate warnings if atmospheric concentrations drop below the 19.5% v/v low alarm limit (oxygen deficiency) or rise above the 23.5% v/v high alarm limit (oxygen enrichment). In high-noise environments, the 95 dB audible alarm, wide-angle flashing LED bars, and integrated vibration mechanism ensure alerts are recognized instantly.

Industrial Inerting and Purge Verification

During maintenance turnarounds, reactor vessel preparation, and hydrocarbon line clearance, facilities utilize nitrogen or carbon dioxide to purge volatile gases and establish an inert blanket. The BW Solo accurately monitors gas levels down to 0.0% v/v using its 1-Series electrochemical sensor, allowing technicians to verify low-oxygen conditions during active purging protocols and subsequently confirm full atmospheric restoration before personnel enter without external breathing apparatus.

Connected Lone Worker and Hazardous Zone Operations

The unit features integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 2402–2480 MHz) wireless transmission with up to a 6-meter line-of-sight range. When paired with a mobile device running the Honeywell Safety Communicator application, real-time gas concentrations, device location data, and active alarm states are transmitted immediately to remote command centers via Honeywell SafetySuite Device Manager software. This wireless telemetry is particularly critical for lone workers operating in expansive tank farms, offshore platforms, and hazardous areas certified for Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, D T4, Class I, Zone 0, and ATEX/IECEx Zone 0 environments.

Rugged Facility Maintenance and Fleet Management

With an IP68 ingress protection rating tested for water immersion up to 1.2 meters for 45 minutes, a temperature operating envelope of -40°C to +60°C, and an elastomeric concussion-proof overmold, the instrument withstands severe industrial environments. Facilities deploying large instrument fleets benefit from streamlined turnaround maintenance:

  • Automated Docking: Full compatibility with the Honeywell IntelliDoX system automates fleet bump testing, 18.0% O2 span calibrations, and configuration adjustments.
  • Compliance Auditing: The internal data logger archives 6 months of continuous exposure logs at 5-second intervals, while the Honeywell IntelliFlash visual indicator pulses green for verified operational compliance or amber if servicing is required.
  • Field Serviceability: Technicians can rapidly replace the front-accessible 1-Series sensor, hydrophobic filter, and 3.6V 2/3 AA lithium thionyl chloride power cell (they are not included) without disassembling the primary electronic enclosure.
