Front-Access Sensor and Filter Replacement
The Honeywell BW Solo is engineered for simplified field serviceability, eliminating the need to dismantle the main instrument housing or expose internal electronic assemblies during routine consumable swaps. The front access port allows industrial technicians to replace the City Technology 1-Series Oxygen (O2) electrochemical sensor and the protective hydrophobic and particulate filter membrane in seconds. When operating in environments prone to heavy dust, moisture, or particulate accumulation, regular visual inspection of the external filter membrane is recommended. A clogged or contaminated filter membrane can cause diffusion restrictions, leading to sensor drift or failed span calibrations. Replacing the filter involves snapping open the front filter door, seating a new membrane insert, and latching the cover back into place to preserve the unit's IP68 dust-tight and water-immersion seal.
Manual Bump Testing and Span Calibration
Routine functional testing ensures the 1-Series Oxygen sensor accurately tracks atmospheric variations and activates alarm mechanisms as specified. Bump testing verifies sensor responsiveness and tests the 95 dB audible alarm, wide-angle flashing LED bars, and internal vibration alarm. For manual calibration, fit the included calibration cap and tubing securely over the diffusion port. Zero calibration is performed in clean ambient air or with certified zero-grade nitrogen, followed by span gas calibration using an atmospheric oxygen standard (typically 18.0% O2). Technicians can execute and navigate calibration routines directly via the front single push button, designed for seamless handling even when wearing heavy industrial work gloves.
Automated Fleet Maintenance via IntelliDoX
For large-scale industrial fleets, the Honeywell BW Solo integrates directly with the Honeywell IntelliDoX automated instrument management system. Seating the detector into an IntelliDoX module automates bump testing, zero adjustments, span calibrations, and data retrieval. The docking station automatically writes records to internal memory and communicates via Ethernet or USB with Honeywell SafetySuite Device Configurator and SafetySuite Device Manager software suites. Automated docking standardizes gas delivery, minimizes calibration gas usage, logs sensor response profiles, and centralizes compliance auditing across multi-worker teams without manual paperwork.
IntelliFlash Operational Compliance Monitoring
Field compliance is visually confirmed on the job site through Honeywell IntelliFlash indicator LEDs. A continuous, pulsing green IntelliFlash LED signals that the gas detector has successfully passed its mandated bump test and calibration intervals and is operating normally. If the instrument is overdue for routine bump testing or sensor calibration, the detector illuminates an amber non-compliance alert LED. This immediate visual status indication allows safety supervisors to audit worker instrumentation before site entry or confined space entry operations.
Battery Cell Servicing and Resetting Alarms
The internal electronics are powered by a field-replaceable 3.6V ER14335 or ER14355 2/3 AA lithium thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl2) cell (they are not included), providing 6 to 12 months of standard operational runtime depending on wireless telemetry and alarm activation frequency. Battery servicing is completed by accessing the dedicated rear compartment door without compromising internal sensor alignments:
- Power Cell Replacement: Loosen the rear compartment door screw, remove the depleted 3.6V 2/3 AA lithium thionyl chloride cell (they are not included), and insert a fresh ER14335 / ER14355 cell (they are not included), observing correct terminal polarity before retightening the door seal.
- Latching Alarm Clearance: If oxygen levels breach factory thresholds (Low Alarm at 19.5% v/v or High Alarm at 23.5% v/v), the detector engages latched signaling. Once the instrument is verified to be in safe, non-hazardous ambient air (between 19.5% and 23.5% O2), press the single front button to acknowledge and clear the latched state.
- Enclosure Cleaning: Wipe the concussion-proof outer overmold housing with a soft damp cloth to clear process debris; avoid harsh chemical solvents that could degrade the elastomeric casing or breach the IP68 sealing.
