Mechanical Mounting and Enclosure Preparation
The GST I-9301 Addressable Single Input/Output Module is constructed from ivory white ABS plastic with an ingress protection rating of IP30. Measuring 120 mm x 80 mm x 39 mm, the unit incorporates an ergonomic two-part plug-in design consisting of a dedicated mounting base plate and the plug-in microprocessor module assembly. This structure allows field wiring to be completed, terminated, and inspected before the active electronics module is plugged into position.
The base plate is designed for direct installation onto standard single-gang electrical back boxes featuring a 6.5 cm mounting hole spacing. For installations where wiring conduits are run on wall surfaces, the unit is fully compatible with the GST B-9310 surface mount back box. Mount the base plate securely to a flat vertical surface within ambient operational environments between -10°C and +50°C (with capability up to +55°C) and relative humidity levels below 93% non-condensing.
Cable Selection and Terminal Wiring
Reliable operation requires compliance with specific wiring and conductor standards. Signal loop lines require a minimum of 1.0 mm² (18 AWG) fire-resistant cable, while external 24VDC power feeds require a minimum of 1.5 mm² fire-resistant cable, in accordance with applicable local electrical and life safety codes.
- Detection Loop (Z1, Z2): Connect to the intelligent fire alarm control panel loop network. These connections are polarity-insensitive (non-polarized).
- External Power Line (D1, D2): Connect to an external 24VDC auxiliary power supply (operating range 16VDC to 28VDC). These terminals are non-polarized and are utilized when operating in four-wire mode to supply power to connected field devices.
- Passive Output Mode (Two-Wire): Terminate dry relay output connections at NC (Normally Closed), COM (Common), and NO (Normally Open). These volt-free contacts support switching ratings up to 5A at 24VDC or 3A at 110VAC for interfaced mechanical equipment such as fire doors, damper actuators, smoke exhausters, and elevator recalls.
- Active Output Mode (Four-Wire): Terminate polarity-sensitive loads across S+ and S- for active 24VDC (rated up to 1A) output. To allow microprocessor loop monitoring against open circuits and short circuits, wire a 4.7kΩ end-of-line resistor in parallel across the load (such as a C-9403 conventional sounder strobe).
Terminal Connection Reference
| Terminal Marking | Polarity | Function & Voltage Rating |

| D1, D2 | Non-polarized | External 24VDC power supply input (operating tolerance 16VDC to 28VDC) |
| COM, NO, NC | Volt-free contacts | Passive relay output: 5A @ 24VDC / 3A @ 110VAC |
| S+, S- | Polarity-sensitive | Active monitored output: 24VDC @ 1A (requires parallel 4.7kΩ EOL resistor) |
Electronic Addressing and Commissioning
The GST I-9301 utilizes digital electronic addressing rather than mechanical DIP switches. Addressing is performed across loop terminals Z1 and Z2 using a GST handheld programmer (model P-9910 or P-9910B). The module occupies one single address on the detection circuit within the programmable range of 1 to 242.
Prior to snapping the module onto the terminated base plate, program the designated loop address and set the functional working mode (two-wire volt-free mode or four-wire monitored active mode) via the handheld programmer. Once programmed, push the module firmly onto the base plate to seat the terminal pins. Upon loop powering from compatible intelligent panels (including the GST 200, GST 200-2, GST 5000, GST 9000, and GST-IFP8), verify that the module communicates correctly, reports power supply integrity, and monitors output loops for open or short faults in accordance with EN 54-18:2005 specifications.
