FAAC B680H Service, Maintenance, and Enclosure Upkeep

The FAAC B680H automated barrier is engineered for 100% continuous duty cycle operation across high-frequency vehicle access points. Routine maintenance protocols ensure that the 24V hybrid hydraulic-brushless drive system delivers sustained performance under industrial operating conditions ranging from -15°C to +65°C.

Hydraulic System and Fluid Servicing

The internal hydraulic circuit operates with a high-performance delivery pump rated up to 3.2 liters per minute. Regular maintenance routines require checking hydraulic line connections and inspecting fluid levels inside the reservoir. The barrier system strictly uses FAAC HP OIL hydraulic fluid to ensure correct viscosity, pressure regulation, and mechanical component lubrication across all operational temperatures. Inspect the internal mechanical assembly (65 kg internal body) for oil weeping around seals, the hydraulic cylinder, or optional hydraulic anti-vandalism valves.

Drive Unit, Balancing Springs, and Mechanical Fasteners

The 36 V DC brushless electric motor runs between 1,000 and 6,000 RPM without wearing brushes, substantially lowering drive-train wear compared to conventional brushed operators. Mechanical servicing focuses on the structural counterbalance assembly and pivot hinges:

  • Counterbalance Springs: Designed to exceed 2,000,000 cycles. Verify tension adjustment and balance alignment for the specific beam length (spanning 2.3 m to 8.3 m) during scheduled facility inspections.
  • Beam Hardware and Joint Integrity: Inspect the pocket retention bolts and check the structural connection on two-piece modular beams (up to 8.3 m total length) to confirm the internal connection joint remains secure.
  • Rubber Buffers and Profiles: Inspect the bottom protective rubber bumper on round or elliptical windproof aluminium profiles for road debris damage or environmental wear.

Control Board Inspection and Diagnostic Access

The integrated E680 microprocessor control unit is housed in a dedicated transparent enclosure mounted directly at the top of the internal upright post. This top-mounted configuration allows maintenance technicians to inspect loop statuses, motor signals, and encoder diagnostic readouts without disassembling the cabinet core. The transparent housing keeps internal electronics sheltered while offering immediate access to the built-in DIN rail accessories, integrated dual loop detectors, and terminal blocks for optional communication interfaces (GSM, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi).

Modular Housing Replacement and Corrosion Management

The cabinet design decouples structural loads from the external shell. The 85 kg total weight is split between the 65 kg structural internal body and a 20 kg non load-bearing outer housing. If an errant vehicle impacts or scratches the barrier enclosure, the outer shell can be serviced or replaced without removing the upright support post, beam pocket, or beam assembly:

Assembly ComponentSpecification / Maintenance Action
Barrier Body Treatment100-micron epoxy zinc anti-corrosion primer plus paint layer
Outer Housing Shell20 kg removable casing (steel or stainless-steel variants)
Ingress Protection ClassIP56 compliance verified by TÜV Süd
Housing Replacement StepLoosen base fixing bolts and slide casing upward off the frame

Periodic maintenance should include washing down the exterior surfaces to prevent chemical buildup on the 100-micron epoxy zinc anti-corrosion treated casing and verifying that the IP56 perimeter enclosure seals remain intact against fine dust and pressurized water ingress.

Auxiliary Power and Sensor Verification

Technicians must verify the operational response of the integrated absolute encoder, confirming that deceleration profiles and emergency reversal triggers function accurately across the full travel stroke. If the barrier installation includes an optional FAAC XBAT 24 backup power module, test the automatic switchover circuitry and confirm the operational state of the auxiliary Nickel-Metal Hydride backup batteries (they are not included) along with the integrated charging system.
