Civil Works and Foundation Compatibility
The FAAC B680H barrier system is engineered for installation on reinforced concrete foundations capable of securing an 85 kg operating structure (65 kg internal mechanical load-bearing body and a 20 kg removable outer housing). The cabinet footprint measures 469 mm in width by 279 mm in depth with an overall height of 1100 mm. For retrofit projects, the unit provides direct backward mechanical compatibility with the legacy foundation mounting plates of FAAC 620 and FAAC 640 boom barriers, allowing direct installation onto existing ground anchors without civil excavation.
Cabinet Architecture and Structural Assembly Sequence
Installation follows a modular structural sequence designed to isolate internal mechanics from external styling elements. The load-bearing internal upright post, drive mechanism, and beam mounting pocket are anchored to the ground plate first. Once the central upright, pivoting pocket, and barrier beam are aligned and secured, the non load-bearing outer housing is lowered directly over the upright post and fastened into position via base fixing bolts. This structural design ensures that any future maintenance, cabinet refinishing, or replacement of the 100-micron epoxy zinc-treated outer housing (available in steel or stainless-steel across four colors) can be completed simply by loosening the base bolts and lifting the outer shell, leaving the mechanical post, hydraulic system, pocket, and boom intact.
Modular Beam Assembly and Mechanical Setup
The FAAC B680H accommodates net passage widths from 2 m up to 8 m, using beam profiles ranging from 2.3 m to 8.3 m in total length. Long passages up to 8.3 m utilize two interlocking modular beam segments joined by an internal, invisible connection joint to simplify on-site handling and transit. The windproof round or elliptical extruded aluminum profiles include bottom rubber impact protection and integrate mounting channels for full-length LED lighting strips. Balancing is achieved using high-durability internal springs tested for over 2,000,000 continuous cycles, adjusted to match the installed beam length and fitted accessories such as support feet or 2 m/3 m skirt kits.
Electrical Wiring and Control Board Commissioning
Electrical feeds connect to the integrated universal switching power supply, which accepts an input voltage range of 100 to 240 V AC at 50/60 Hz. The power supply drives a 36 V DC brushless motor running between 1,000 and 6,000 RPM, delivering an absorbed power of 240 W and drawing 1.1 A at 230 V. The FAAC E680 microprocessor control board is housed inside a transparent enclosure mounted at the upper section of the upright post for direct access and visibility. Commissioning is streamlined through the board's guided mechanical alignment and an automated 2-step control board setup procedure. Deceleration profiles and obstacle-reversal thresholds are continuously managed by an integrated absolute encoder to comply with pedestrian impact curves.
Loop Detector and Auxiliary System Integration
The E680 board features an integrated DIN rail within the upper cabinet space and includes two factory-integrated, high-sensitivity inductive loop detectors, eliminating external vehicle detection modules. Terminals are provided for external control networks via dedicated GSM, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi interface connectors. For facilities requiring continuous uninterrupted operation during power failures, the optional FAAC XBAT 24 backup module can be installed directly inside the cabinet alongside Nickel-Metal Hydride backup batteries (they are not included) and an integrated charging circuit. The hydraulic transmission circuit operates with dedicated FAAC HP OIL driving an internal pump delivering up to 3.2 liters per minute, maintaining an IP56 protection rating verified by TÜV Süd across operating temperatures from -15°C to +65°C.
