Prolite PEL120 E/M Maintenance Guidelines & Service Protocol

Routine maintenance of the Prolite PEL120 E/M maintained exit luminaire ensures consistent compliance with IS:9583-1981 standards across commercial and industrial installations. Regular inspection preserves uninterrupted operation during standard 230 V AC, 50 Hz utility feed and guarantees emergency changeover in critical escape routes, staircases, underground parking facilities, and battery (they are not included) rooms.

Status Indication & Charging Diagnostics

The Prolite PEL120 E/M incorporates a front-facing Red LED indicator that confirms the continuous operation of the internal constant voltage charging circuit. During routine facility walk-throughs, verify that the Red LED remains illuminated in the "ON" state whenever the ~230 V AC electrical supply is healthy.

If the Red LED fails to illuminate during normal supply conditions, isolate the luminaire from the mains power supply and inspect the internal 5 A, 250 V rated milky white polycarbonate terminal block. Check that line and neutral conductors are firmly anchored into the electrical grade brass contact terminals without corrosion, mechanical loosening, or thermal degradation.

Rechargeable Storage System & Duration Testing

Emergency lighting protocols require periodic functional testing of the self-contained rechargeable Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery (they are not included). Initiate a simulated mains power failure by disconnecting the primary AC supply to verify automatic changeover.

  • Functional Test: Verify that the single 18/20 W T-12 fluorescent tube instantly remains illuminated upon AC supply interruption.
  • Discharge Duration Verification: Under full discharge conditions, the SLA battery (they are not included) system must deliver up to 180 minutes (+10%) of emergency egress illumination.
  • Recharging Cycle: Following a partial or complete discharge test, allow the constant voltage charger a continuous recharging cycle of 10 to 12 hours to bring the rechargeable SLA battery (they are not included) back to full operational capacity.

Fluorescent Lamp & G13 Rotor Holder Servicing

The fixture operates with a single 1 x FT-L (T-12) fluorescent tube rated at 18/20 Watts, compatible with commercial lamp makes including Osram, Philips, and Surya. Prior to relamping or servicing, always isolate the 230 V mains supply.

To replace a depleted lamp, access the interior by detaching the diffuser assembly. Carefully rotate the T-12 lamp within the G13 base rotor holder. The rotor holder is molded from white Polycarbonate/ABS engineered with electrical grade brass contacts. Inspect the brass contacts for carbon deposits or mechanical fatigue before seating the replacement lamp firmly into the G13 sockets.

Housing, Reflector, and Optical Care

Because the unit carries an ingress protection rating of IP-20, internal assemblies are protected against solid objects but require shielding from water spray or excessive airborne moisture. Periodic cleaning prevents lumen depreciation across the optical surfaces.
