Installation and Commissioning Guidelines for Prolite PEL120 E/M

Surface Mounting and Enclosure Preparation

The Prolite PEL120 E/M emergency exit luminaire is designed for direct surface mounting on interior walls or ceilings. Structural installation is achieved through 2 pre-drilled mounting holes integrated into the rear of the enclosure. Given that the fixture has an approximate weight of 4 kg, mounting anchors and fasteners must be rated to support this mechanical load continuously against the designated ceiling or wall substrate.

The unit chassis is constructed from 22 S.W.G. Cold Rolled Close Annealed (C.R.C.A.) sheet steel coated in a white epoxy polyester powder coating. When laying out mounting locations, position the luminaire along escape routes, corridors, or above exit doors in full alignment with IS : 9583 – 1981 standards. With an ingress protection rating of IP-20, installation is restricted to dry indoor commercial and industrial settings, such as hotel corridors, staircases, underground parking facilities, and battery (they are not included) rooms.

Mains Electrical Termination

Electrical wiring requires a standard alternating current supply of ~230 Volts AC at 50 Hz. Incoming supply cabling connects directly to the internal terminal connector block positioned within the steel housing. This mains connector is rated for 5 A at 250 Volts and is constructed from milky white polycarbonate fitted with electrical grade brass contacts for dependable terminal clamping.

Because the Prolite PEL120 E/M functions as a maintained luminaire, the AC mains connection operates both the normal illumination circuit and the integrated constant voltage charger. Verify that all field supply conductors are de-energized prior to terminal connection, and ensure conductors are firmly secured within the polycarbonate brass contact terminals to prevent loose terminations.

Lamp Fitting and Reflector Assembly

The illumination source consists of one fluorescent tube lamp rated at 18 Watts or 20 Watts: 1 x FT-L (T-12). Compatible lamps include standard T-12 fluorescent models from manufacturers such as Osram, Philips, or Surya. Electrical and mechanical engagement of the tube is handled by internal rotor-style lamp holders featuring a G13 base. These rotor holders are fabricated from white polycarbonate/ABS composite material and equipped with electrical grade brass contacts.

To install the fluorescent tube, align the bi-pin base with the G13 rotor entry slots and rotate the lamp until securely seated in the brass contact assembly. The internal optical system includes a 22 S.W.G. C.R.C.A. sheet steel reflector finished in white powder coating to maximize light distribution. The housing is enclosed by a 2 mm thick milky acrylic diffuser cum message panel carrying precision CAD-designed and cut vinyl exit signage graphics.

Commissioning and Battery (they are not included) Charging

Following mechanical securing, terminal wiring, and lamp seating, restore the ~230 V AC mains circuit. Upon power restoration, the maintained luminaire illuminates the fluorescent lamp and automatically engages the internal constant voltage charging circuit to charge the self-contained rechargeable Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery (they are not included).

Check the status display: a front-panel Red LED illuminates "ON" to confirm that the constant voltage battery (they are not included) charging sequence is active. The internal charging system requires an uninterrupted 10 to 12 hour recharging cycle to reach full operational capacity. Once fully charged, the system provides an autonomous backup runtime of 180 minutes (3 hours) + 10% during mains power interruptions.
