Maintenance, Diagnostics, and Battery Servicing Guidelines

Routine preventative maintenance of the Honeywell Morley-IAS DXc4 (714-001-241) four-loop fire alarm control panel ensures continuous compliance and operational readiness across all 160 configured detection zones. Field service technicians and certified fire engineers must conduct periodic physical inspections, electronic loop diagnostics, and power supply verifications using the built-in system tools.

Power Supply and Standby Battery Servicing

The panel is powered by an internal 24V DC 4A EN 54-4 compliant power supply unit (replacement PSU model 797-090) operating on a 110V / 230V AC (±15%), 50/60 Hz mains supply. Regular power audits should measure mains voltage stability, secondary DC output rail levels, and secondary standby battery performance.

Emergency standby power requires two 12V 17Ah sealed lead-acid standby batteries (they are not included). These deliver up to 48 hours of autonomous standby in standalone configurations, or up to 24 hours when an optional 795-099 network card or remote repeaters (such as the 709-601-001 active or 709-701-001 passive repeaters) are attached. During quarterly service schedules, verify the float charge voltage from the PSU and check terminal post torque on the internal battery wiring leads (they are not included). Inspect the battery-backed real-time clock (RTC) retention to maintain accurate timestamps for the onboard event log.

Engineering Diagnostic Modes and Walk-Testing

The DXc4 firmware includes dedicated commissioning and servicing routines accessible via the front 12-key alphanumeric keypad and the 6 × 40 character (240 × 64 pixel) backlit blue LCD:

  • Walk-Test Mode: Enables single-engineer functional testing of field devices across individual fire zones without initiating full site evacuation alarms or notifying external monitoring stations. System response is confirmed via onboard test indicators.
  • Relay Disablement: Service personnel can globally disable all onboard output relays—including the Fire relay, Fault/Extended Fire Transmission relay, and programmable Aux relay (each rated 24V DC 1A)—to prevent spurious activation of third-party air handling units, door retainers, or transmission links during service.
  • Engineering Buzzer Mute: Allows the internal panel buzzer to be temporarily silenced during intrusive hardware servicing or loop tracing to reduce ambient disturbance.

Loop Driver and I/O Circuit Inspections

The DXc4 provides 4 addressable detection loops, each driven by a 500mA multi-protocol loop driver. During maintenance audits, measure the static and peak loop currents against the 500mA maximum rating. Check that connected devices adhere to the configured single-protocol limits: up to 198 total points per loop (99 sensors plus 99 modules/MCPs/AV units) for System Sensor devices, or up to 126 points per loop for Apollo (Xplorer, XP95, Discovery) and Hochiki (ESP) devices. If System Sensor Agile wireless devices are linked (supported on DXc firmware version 1.30 or higher), confirm radio frequency signal margins.

Inspect physical terminations on the plug-in screw terminal blocks to ensure secure electrical contact without stress. Confirm circuit monitoring on both independent 1A sounder circuits and the two onboard monitored inputs, and verify that the fused auxiliary DC output is delivering its rated +24V DC at 250mA.

Enclosure Care and Environmental Integrity

The DXc4 enclosure consists of a mild steel sheet rear backbox and an ABS plastic front cover (compliant with BS EN60950) finished in RAL 9002 Grey White, rated to IP30 (EN 60529). Clean the exterior surface with a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water; never apply abrasive pads, aggressive solvents, or hydrocarbon-based chemical cleaners. Inspect the 29 cable knockouts (25 top, 4 bottom) to ensure glands prevent dust entry, and verify that site conditions remain within the operating temperature envelope of 0°C to +40°C and relative humidity levels of 5% to 95% non-condensing.
