Mechanical Enclosure Mounting and Environmental Siting
The Honeywell Morley-IAS DXc4 control panel (part number 714-001-241) is engineered for indoor wall mounting within clean, dry environments. The enclosure measures 391.5 mm (H) x 390 mm (W) x 147 mm (D) and consists of a mild steel sheet rear backbox mated to an ABS plastic front cover compliant with BS EN 60950, finished in RAL 9002 (Grey white). The unit carries an IP30 ingress protection rating in accordance with EN 60529.
Secure the backbox to a flat, vertical load-bearing wall utilizing the 3-point mounting hole arrangement located inside the rear chassis. For semi-flush or recessed architectural installations, installers should incorporate the optional flush-mount bezel kit (part number 795-113). If additional internal clearance is necessary for auxiliary assemblies, the DXc extension back box (part number 795-121) can be mounted behind the primary enclosure. Maintain site environmental limits strictly within the specified operating temperature range of 0°C to +40°C and a non-condensing relative humidity between 5% and 95%.
Cable Entry and Field Wiring Management
Field wiring entry is provided via 29 pre-punched 20 mm knockouts distributed across the enclosure housing: 25 knockouts positioned across the top face and 4 knockouts situated along the bottom face. High-voltage AC supply cabling must enter through designated knockouts isolated from low-voltage detection, signaling, and data cabling to eliminate transient interference.
Internal terminations use plug-in screw terminal block connectors that allow field cables to be wired, tested, and unplugged for panel maintenance:
- Detection Loops: Connect the 4 analogue addressable detection loops to their respective onboard terminal blocks. Each loop driver supplies up to 500 mA loop current capacity.
- Sounder Outputs: Terminate conventional alarm notification devices across the 2 independent monitored sounder circuits, each rated at 1 A.
- Auxiliary DC Output: Connect field interface modules or peripheral loads to the onboard +24V DC auxiliary output, rated at 250 mA (fused).
- Relay Outputs: Three single-pole changeover relays (rated 24V DC at 1 A) provide dedicated outputs for Fire, Fault / Extended Fire Transmission, and programmable Auxiliary switching.
- Monitored Inputs: Wire external fault or supervisory triggers into the 2 onboard monitored input circuits.
- Peripheral Communications: Connect external Morley Active Repeaters (709-601-001) or Morley Passive Repeaters (709-701-001) via the onboard RS485 data port.
Mains Electrical Connection and Standby Battery Integration
The internal EN 54-4 compliant power supply unit (PSU, replacement model 797-090) operates across an input range of 110V AC or 230V AC (±15%) at 50/60 Hz, generating a regulated 24V DC 4 A internal system bus. Mains supply wiring must be routed via an unswitched, dedicated spur with appropriate overcurrent protection.
Secondary power backup requires 2 x 12V 17Ah sealed lead-acid standby batteries (they are not included), which fit directly into the base of the rear enclosure. The DXc4 bare panel weighs 4.5 kg without standby batteries (they are not included). A fully charged pair of 17Ah standby batteries (they are not included) provides up to 48 hours of autonomous standby in standalone mode, or up to 24 hours of operation when optional networking cards or remote repeaters are active.
Commissioning, Autolearn, and Configuration
Following wiring verification and mains power-up, basic commissioning can be completed directly from the front panel interface. The integrated autolearn function discovers all connected loop devices in as few as five button presses, establishing baseline communication and point registration.
Advanced site configuration—such as configuring up to 160 fire zones, 7-day timers, day/night sensitivity schedules, coincidence grouping, and verification delays—can be performed via the front fascia using the 12-key alphanumeric telephone-style keypad and 6 x 40 character (240 x 64 pixels) blue backlit LCD. Alternatively, upload customized configuration files through the onboard USB/PC programming port using the Windows PC configuration software tool. Note that while the DXc4 multi-protocol architecture supports Apollo (Xplorer, XP95, Discovery at 126 devices/loop), Hochiki (ESP at 126 devices/loop), and System Sensor (up to 198 devices/loop: 99 sensors plus 99 modules/MCPs/AV devices), all loops on the control panel must operate on the single chosen protocol.
Network Card and Hardware Expansion
To interconnect the DXc4 into a multi-panel network compliant with BS 5839 part 1 (supporting up to 4 x DXc4 panels for a 16-loop network total), install the optional DXc Network Card (part number 795-099). If physical zone alarm indication is required, integrate the optional 40-zone LED card kit (795-102) or 80-zone LED card kit (795-124). For external automation integration, install the RS232 kit (795-122), or add physical access control using the keyswitch kit (795-118).
