Protocol, Device, and Hardware Compatibility

The Honeywell Morley-IAS DXc4 (part number 714-001-241) is a 4-loop analogue addressable fire alarm control panel equipped with 500mA multi-protocol loop drivers. It provides native firmware and hardware support for leading addressable field device families: System Sensor, Apollo, and Hochiki. However, protocol assignment is panel-wide; only one protocol can be configured and active within the panel at any given time. Mixing different device protocols across separate loops on the same DXc4 control panel is not supported.

Addressable Loop Capacities and Supported Device Ranges

Loop addressing structures and maximum device counts vary according to the active manufacturer protocol selected during commissioning:

  • System Sensor Protocol: Supports up to 198 addressable devices per loop, partitioned into 99 sensors/detectors plus 99 modules, manual call points (MCPs), and audio-visual (AV) appliances. Across all four onboard loops, a fully loaded DXc4 can control up to 792 System Sensor addressable points.
  • Apollo Protocol: Compatible with Apollo Xplorer, XP95, and Discovery protocol ranges, handling up to 126 addressable devices per loop (up to 504 devices maximum across four loops).
  • Hochiki Protocol: Compatible with Hochiki ESP protocol devices, handling up to 126 addressable devices per loop (up to 504 devices maximum across four loops).
  • Wireless Integration: Systems operating with DXc firmware version 1.30 or higher are fully compatible with the System Sensor Agile wireless device range.

Networking and Annunciator Hardware

For distributed architectures, the DXc4 features an onboard RS485 communication data port designed to interface directly with external repeaters. It supports both the Morley Active Repeater (part number 709-601-001) and the Morley Passive Repeater (part number 709-701-001).

To establish peer-to-peer panel networking, each control panel requires the installation of the optional DXc Network Card (part number 795-099). A network built using this interface meets BS 5839 Part 1 compliance and allows interconnecting up to 16 detection loops across the site. System engineers can combine up to four 4-loop DXc4 panels, eight 2-loop panels, sixteen 1-loop panels, or any combination not exceeding 16 loops in aggregate.

Optional Hardware Kits, Power Requirements, and Compatibility Boundaries

The DXc4 enclosure accommodates specific optional kits for zoning, third-party communication, and mechanical mounting:

  • Zonal LED Indicators: 40-zone LED card kit (795-102) and 80-zone LED card kit (795-124).
  • Third-Party Integration: RS232 kit (795-122) for interfacing third-party protocols via serial data communication.
  • Enclosure & Hardware Accessories: DXc extension back box (795-121), keyswitch kit (795-118), and flush-mount bezel kit (795-113).
  • Power & Backup: Powered by an internal 24V DC 4A EN 54-4 compliant power supply (replacement model 797-090). Emergency standby operation requires 2 x 12V 17Ah sealed lead-acid standby batteries (they are not included), which deliver up to 48 hours of autonomous standby, or 24 hours when networked or running external repeaters.

Certain expansion modules available within the broader Morley-IAS DX Connexion family are intentionally restricted by platform architecture. Specifically, System IO Card support (Pt13 compliant) and Fire Brigade Control & Indication panel support are strictly limited to DXc-1 and DXc-2 panels and are not compatible with the DXc4.
