Stop Shoplifting in the Diwali Rush: EAS Anti-Theft Gates, Tags and Detachers for Indian Stores

From Dhanteras to Diwali, Indian stores see their biggest footfall and their fullest shelves of the year, and that is exactly when shoplifting peaks. Staff are busy at billing, trial rooms are full and nobody can watch every rack. An EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) system watches the door for you: every tagged item that has not been billed sets off the alarm at the exit. This guide covers KT India's EAS range, from the antenna pedestals to hard tags, soft labels and detachers, which product suits which item, how to set it up, and how to build a system for your store.

    Why acousto-magnetic (AM)?
The eSSL AM 88 system works at 58 kHz, the standard used by most organised retail. It gives a wide protected gap of 1.8 to 2.4 m with hard tags and 1.5 to 1.8 m with soft labels, so one pair of pedestals covers a normal shop door. It also has few false alarms and works well near metal racks and foil packaging. All KT India tags and labels are 58 kHz AM, so they work with the pedestals right out of the box.
Hard tag, lanyard tag or soft label?
If you can push a pin through it, use a pencil hard tag. It is the strongest deterrent, shoppers can see it, and it is reused for years. If there is no fabric to pin, such as shoes, handbag straps, sunglasses or bottle necks, loop a lanyard tag through it. For boxed and packed goods, stick an AM soft label on the box or under the flap. It costs very little, so you can label every high-value unit.

At billing, the detacher releases the pin in a second, and the tag goes back to the rack.
How to set up and run EAS, step by step
    1. Place the pedestals. Fix the master pedestal on one side of the exit and a slave on the other, within the rated gap. For wider doors, add another slave. Keep billing counters and tagged stock a little away from the pedestals.
    2. Tag on arrival. Tag stock when it is unpacked, before it reaches the shop floor. Pin hard tags through a seam, not through the fabric itself, so there are no holes.
    3. Place soft labels consistently. Put them in the same place on every product of a type so billing staff always know where to find them.
    4. Detach at billing. Place the hard tag on the detacher, and the pin releases so the garment slides free. Soft labels must be deactivated at billing; ask us for the matching AM deactivator through Enquiry Now.
    5. Respond calmly to alarms. When the alarm sounds, a staff member politely asks the customer to step back in and checks the bill. In most cases it is a tag that was missed at billing.
    6. Test every morning. Walk a hard tag through the pedestals before opening, and keep the tag stock counted.

Soft labels go on boxed and packed goods, the same spot on every unit.

    Frequently asked questions
How wide an entrance can one pair of pedestals cover?
With hard tags, the eSSL AM 88 protects 1.8 to 2.4 m between pedestals, and 1.5 to 1.8 m with soft labels. For wider doors, add a slave antenna.
Can the hard tags be reused?
Yes. Hard tags are removed with the detacher at billing and go back on new stock.
Will the pins damage delicate fabric?
Pin through a seam, hem or label, never through open fabric, and the garment stays undamaged.
Do the tags work with other brands of AM pedestals?
KT India tags and labels work at 58 kHz, the standard AM frequency, and are designed for AM systems like the eSSL AM 88.
