Speed Guns and Radar Speed Displays for Factories, Campuses and Private Roads

    11/08/2026
A truck enters the plant road too fast and nearly clips a worker crossing between trailers. The transporter says the driver wasn't speeding, and nobody can prove otherwise. Inside factories, warehouses, ports, townships and campuses, overspeeding is a real risk on roads shared by trucks, forklifts, buses, bikes and pedestrians. Measuring speed changes that. A speed gun lets your safety team check vehicles anywhere, and a radar speed display shows every driver their speed as they approach, so most slow down on their own. This guide covers the KTI range, how to choose between handheld and fixed equipment, how to roll out speed control, and what to install at different sites.

    Handheld or fixed?
Use a handheld speed gun when the risk moves around: surprise checks, contractor drives, temporary project roads and audits. A supervisor can check the loading bay today and the township gate tomorrow. Radar guns like the Tracer SRA3000 PRO are easy to use. Laser guns like the TruSpeed DC pick out one vehicle in a stream. Use a fixed radar speed display where the problem repeats at the same place: the gate-to-weighbridge road, a pedestrian crossing, a bus route or a basement ramp. It works around the clock and corrects behaviour without a guard. Add an ANPR model or the Stalker fixed system where you also need to identify the vehicle. Most sites need both: handheld guns to find the hot spots, and fixed displays to control them.
How to roll out speed control, step by step
    1. Measure first. Use a speed gun on every shift for two weeks to find where and when vehicles speed.
    2. Set zone limits. Define limits for each zone, such as the gate, the main road, the loading bays and the pedestrian areas, and mark them with signs such as the solar speed sign.
    3. Put it in the rules. Add speed limits to contractor induction, transport agreements and visitor passes.
    4. Install a display at the worst spot. Mount a radar speed display where drivers reach top speed, before the hazard, not just after a speed breaker where they are already slow. Point the radar along the lane.
    5. Use the handheld properly. Stand safely off the road, aim at the front of the approaching vehicle along its line of travel, and note the speed, time and vehicle number. Print the slip where the gun has a printer.
    6. Escalate fairly. Agree a ladder: warning, notice to the vendor, repeat-offender action and gate hold. Apply it to everyone.
    7. Review monthly. Look at display data, through cloud reporting where installed, alongside handheld records, and move displays as hot spots change.

Solar displays work where there is no power for cabling.
    Maintenance tips
Keep handheld guns charged or carry spare batteries, and check them against a vehicle with a known speed before important checks. Follow the manufacturer's advice on calibration and keep the certificate with the device. For fixed displays, clean the display face and radar window every month, keep solar panels free of dust and bird droppings, check the pole and mounting after storms, and make sure the display still points along the lane. Renew cloud subscriptions on time so you don't lose data.
    Frequently asked questions
Can a private company check speeds inside its premises?
Yes. Companies use speed guns and displays as an internal safety control for staff, contractors and visitors. Treat it as a site rule backed by your contracts, not as a police challan.
    Radar or laser?
Radar is quick and easy for single vehicles on quiet roads. Laser aims a narrow beam, so it picks out one vehicle in traffic.
Do speed displays really slow drivers down?
Seeing their own speed flashed back makes most drivers ease off, especially when the display also shows a message such as "SLOW DOWN".
What should I share to get a quote?
The site layout, road width and lanes, vehicle types, the speed limits you want, power availability, whether you need number plate capture, and how you want reports.
