Installation, Plumbing, and Mounting Guidelines

Proper mechanical mounting and piping alignment are critical to ensuring the Udyogi 6250 GI Emergency Shower Cum Eye Wash Fountain operates in compliance with IS 10592:2018 and ANSI Z358.1 standards. The complete floor-mounted assembly weighs 17.8 kg and must be positioned in accessible industrial zones, such as chemical processing, battery charging, spraying, and dipping areas, free from physical obstructions.

Plumbing and Hydraulic Supply Specifications

The combination unit requires a direct connection to an uninterruptible supply of clean drinking or tepid water. Pipework and hydraulic sizing must maintain sufficient continuous dynamic pressure during emergency operation to feed both drench and eyewash circuits:

  • Operating Hydraulic Pressure: 2.1 kg/cm² (30 PSI).
  • Water Inlet Connection: 1-¼ inches BSP / NB female thread, located at an inlet elevation of approximately 1400 mm to 1500 mm from the finished floor.
  • Drain / Water Outlet Connection: 1-¼ inches BSP / NB Tee fitting for wastewater collection and disposal pipe routing.
  • Shower Discharge Capacity: Delivers a minimum continuous flow rate of 76 LPM (litres per minute).
  • Eye Wash Discharge Capacity: Delivers a minimum continuous flow rate of 12 LPM (litres per minute).

Base Mounting and Mechanical Assembly

The unit is designed for rigid vertical installation onto a stable, level concrete surface using the integrated structural base plate:

  • Position the floor base plate over a flat, level surface capable of supporting the 17.8 kg tare weight plus dynamic water loads and operator forces during pull-rod actuation.
  • Anchor the base plate firmly to the industrial floor to prevent rocking, vibration, or bending when the pull rod or foot pedal is engaged.
  • Assemble the vertical Galvanized Iron (GI) powder-coated pipe columns using the provided pipe fittings.
  • Utilize the included 1-inch lock nut to adjust, square, and lock the upper bend pipe perpendicular to the operator station, orienting the yellow ABS shower head directly downward over the standing area.

Dimensional and Ergonomic Mounting Verification

When fully erected, verify all component heights and dimensional clearances against design criteria and IS 10592:2018 / ANSI Z358.1 parameters:

Assembly ComponentEngineering Height / Spacing Specification
Shower Head Height2100 mm to 2400 mm above finished floor level
Shower Pull Rod Max Height1752 mm maximum above finished floor level
Water Inlet Elevation1400 mm to 1500 mm approximate height
Eye Wash Receptor Bowl270 ± 5 mm diameter yellow ABS bowl
Eye Wash Spray Heads Height830 mm to 1140 mm above finished floor level
Twin Spray Heads Spacing140 mm to 200 mm center-to-center distance

Valve Linkage and Pre-Commissioning Procedure

Before putting the system into service, all incoming supply lines must be thoroughly flushed to clear pipe scale, burrs, and debris that could foul the aerator nozzles or valve seats.

Connect the SS 304 stay-open shower ball valve mechanism to the vertical pull rod. Confirm that pulling downward immediately activates full continuous discharge without needing sustained manual pressure, remaining open until deliberately pushed back to the closed position. Connect the eye wash assembly's 1/2-inch SS 304 ball valve to both the GI powder-coated push plate and the GI powder-coated foot pedal. Verify that actuating either trigger fully opens the soft-flow twin automiser spray heads and automatically dislodges the protective anti-dust flip covers via line water pressure.
