Safe Battery Replacement and Hazardous Location Protocol
Servicing and battery (they are not included) replacement for the Pelican StealthLite 2410 LED task light must strictly be conducted in designated non-hazardous environments. Disassembling the enclosure within an explosive gas, vapor, or combustible dust zone compromises intrinsic safety boundaries and violates plant safety procedures.
To replace the power cells, unscrew the ABS shroud and lens housing in a counter-clockwise direction. Carefully slide out the machined-aluminum collimated LED module and electrical contact assembly from the EXL body cavity. Remove the depleted batteries (they are not included) and insert four fresh 1.5V AA alkaline batteries (they are not included), aligning each terminal strictly with the polarity diagrams engraved directly onto the exterior of the flashlight body. Reinsert the contact module and LED lamp squarely, then re-engage the lens housing clockwise onto the body threads, pressing evenly to prevent cross-threading. To prevent cell leakage, reverse-polarity charging, and outgassing hazards, never mix battery (they are not included) brands, do not mix depleted batteries (they are not included) with fresh batteries (they are not included), and never use NiCad or Zinc-Carbon batteries (they are not included). All four AA alkaline batteries (they are not included) must be replaced simultaneously to ensure steady 6.0V DC operation.
O-Ring Inspection, Cleaning, and Lubrication
The Pelican 2410 achieves its IPX7 submersible and waterproof rating through a precision Ethylene Propylene rubber O-ring seal (Pelican replacement Cat # 2401). Routine inspection and proper lubrication of this elastomeric barrier are essential to protect the internal electrical components against moisture, rain, and submersion ingress.
Inspect the Ethylene Propylene O-ring closely whenever opening the lens housing. Examine the surface under bright task lighting for cuts, flattening, micro-tears, sand, or process particulates. A damaged O-ring or contaminated sealing lip can cause instant enclosure flooding under hydrostatic pressure. Clean the O-ring and its retention seat using a clean, lint-free wipe. Keep the casing threads, the O-ring channel, and the inside sealing lip of the polycarbonate (PC) lens housing lightly lubricated with pure silicone grease. Ensure the O-ring sits evenly without pinching or twisting before threading the housing closed.
Hydrogen Gas Absorber Catalyst Pellet Maintenance
The interior cavity of the StealthLite 2410 contains specialized catalyst pellets engineered to absorb hydrogen gas off-gassed by heavily discharged or compromised alkaline batteries (they are not included). In a tightly sealed waterproof enclosure, unmitigated hydrogen accumulation creates an internal combustion hazard if exposed to an electrical arc.
Whenever opening the housing for battery (they are not included) changes, visually verify the position and condition of the catalyst pellets. If the interior cavity has been subjected to condensation or moisture ingress and the pellets become wet, do not heat, bake, or chemical-treat them. Allow the catalyst pellets to completely air-dry at ambient room temperature before reassembling the contact module, loading fresh AA alkaline batteries (they are not included), and closing the light.
Electrostatic Dissipation and Surface Cleaning
The rugged EXL resin housing and ABS shroud provide superior resistance to chemical attack and extreme temperatures. However, operating non-conductive polymer devices in certified hazardous zones requires strict electrostatic precautions.
To eliminate electrostatic ignition risks, never dry-wipe or buff the flashlight exterior in hazardous plant environments. Clean the EXL body, ABS shroud, and polycarbonate (PC) lens exclusively with a soft cloth dampened with water or a mild neutral detergent solution. Damp cleaning dissipates surface charges safely while removing grease, hydraulic oil, coal dust, and industrial chemical residues.
Routine Mechanical Inspection and Long-Term Storage
Incorporate the following preventative checks into your regular equipment maintenance schedules:
- Contact Spring Inspection: Examine the internal stainless steel and phosphor bronze contact spring retainers during each battery (they are not included) cycle. Wipe away dust, grease, or oxidation using a residue-free electrical contact cleaner to maintain consistent conductivity and prevent flickering.
- Switch Operation: Test the one-handed rotational toggle switch lever periodically to confirm positive mechanical detents between the locked 'On' and 'Off' positions, ensuring reliable operation when wearing heavy industrial gloves.
- Decommissioning & Storage: When placing the Pelican 2410 into long-term storage or tool crib inventory, remove all four AA alkaline batteries (they are not included). Storing the flashlight without batteries (they are not included) prevents chemical electrolyte leakage from corroding the phosphor bronze contacts or damaging the internal EXL casing.
- Optical Lens Integrity: Inspect the clear polycarbonate (PC) lens for heavy abrasive scoring or mechanical fracturing that could compromise the 183-lumen, 8,480-candela beam concentration or degrade IPX7 enclosure integrity.
