Audio issues typically originate from switch engagement status, cable routing, 600-ohm impedance matching, or depleted power cells inside the chime compartment. Follow this structured diagnostic guide to isolate and resolve operational faults across commercial PA, showroom, auditorium, and conference installations.

Absence of Voice Signal and Audio Output

If voice paging cannot be heard through the public address system, systematically inspect the signal chain from the microphone base to the mixer-amplifier:

  • Lockable Switch State: Verify that the special high-reliability lockable ON/OFF switch is depressed into the active 'ON' position and that the integrated LED indicator illuminates. If the switch is set to 'OFF', the 2.0 mV/Pa dynamic cartridge is muted.
  • Audio Cable & Plug Verification: Ensure the supplied 6-metre twin-core shielded low-noise cable is firmly seated. Verify that the 6.3 mm (1/4-inch) phone plug is completely inserted into a compatible 600-ohm microphone input jack on the amplifier.
  • Cartridge Orientation: Because the microphone incorporates a unidirectional dynamic cartridge, verify that the flexible 300 mm (12-inch) gooseneck is directed towards the speaker. Off-axis speech outside the 50 to 10,000 Hz frequency response profile results in attenuated pickup.

Multi-Tone Electronic Chime Failure or Inoperative Indicator

The voice paging cartridge operates dynamically, but the internal multi-tone chime generator requires internal DC power to function. If pressing the non-lockable CHIME switch produces no tone or fails to light the integrated LED indicator:

  • Power Cell Inspection: The chime circuit operates strictly on 2 × 1.5V (UM-3) pencil cells (they are not included). Access the battery compartment and check whether 2 × 1.5V (UM-3) pencil cells (they are not included) are depleted, missing, or installed with reverse polarity. Replace with fresh 1.5V cells (they are not included).
  • Switch Actuation: Ensure the non-lockable CHIME switch is fully depressed to trigger the automated chime cycle prior to speaking.

Chime Output Level Too Low or Imbalanced

If voice paging levels are standard but the multi-tone announcement chime is faint, distorted, or overpowering the PA system:

  • Bottom Preset Adjustment: Locate the chime level preset potentiometer on the bottom side of the aluminium die-cast base. Using a fine adjustment tool, rotate the preset screw to calibrate the chime output level until it balances smoothly with the 2.0 mV/Pa microphone voice sensitivity.
  • Weak Battery Voltage: A low-voltage condition on the 2 × 1.5V (UM-3) pencil cells (they are not included) can cause chime tone distortion or weak output. Replace both cells (they are not included) if adjusting the preset does not restore output volume.

Audio Hum, Noise Interference, and Feedback

If low-frequency hum or acoustic feedback occurs during PA broadcasts:

  • Cable Placement: Ensure the 6-metre shielded low-noise cable is routed away from high-voltage AC electrical lines, lighting ballasts, or power transformers.
  • Impedance Alignment: Confirm that the connected amplifier channel presents a nominal 600-ohm microphone input impedance.
  • Feedback Suppression: Reposition the 300 mm gooseneck to point away from paging loudspeakers to prevent acoustic feedback loops.
