Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing Guidelines

Routine Functional Testing Procedures

Periodic operational testing of the Honeywell Morley-IAS HM-MCP-GLASS analogue addressable manual call point is essential to verify loop signaling integrity and system responsiveness in compliance with EN 54-11 requirements. Facility maintenance personnel can execute non-destructive functional tests without shattering the frangible break-glass element.

To perform a routine functional test, insert the specialized double-pronged test key into the dedicated aperture located at the bottom of the PC/ABS enclosure. Pushing the key firmly inward lowers the internal glass carriage mechanism, releasing the internal microswitch. Upon microswitch release, verify that the integral red LED shifts from its intermittent polling flash to a steady, continuous red illumination. Confirm that the interconnected Morley-IAS intelligent fire alarm control panel registers the correct device address, displays an active fire condition, and latches the reporting zone.

Withdraw the test key downward after verification to return the internal carriage and frangible glass element to the normal operational position. Reset the Morley-IAS fire alarm control panel to clear the latching alarm state and confirm that the call point LED returns to its standard blinking polling mode.

Post-Actuation Glass Element Replacement

When the manual call point is activated during an emergency event, the frangible break-glass element fractures to release the internal microswitch. Restoring the unit to active service requires immediate replacement of the broken glass component.

  • Safety Isolation: Notify facility safety managers and place the affected fire loop into walk-test or service mode at the Morley-IAS panel to prevent unintended site-wide evacuation signaling during restoration.
  • Carriage Access: Insert the operating tool or maintenance key into the base of the call point to disengage the lower retaining bezel of the flame-red (RAL 3001) housing.
  • Glass Removal: Carefully extract residual fragments of the fractured frangible glass element from the interior carriage, taking care not to damage the spring-loaded microswitch mechanism or internal gasket seals.
  • Element Insertion: Position an approved replacement frangible glass panel into the internal retention slots.
  • Assembly Closure: Slide the carriage assembly back into position until it clicks securely into place, applying seating pressure against the internal microswitch.
  • Panel Restoration: Reset the Morley-IAS control panel, verify quiescent loop polling via the intermittent red LED pulse, and return the detection zone to online supervisory status.

Electrical Loop and Address Servicing

The HM-MCP-GLASS incorporates a plug-and-play removable terminal block that simplifies routine electrical troubleshooting, loop continuity checking, and unit replacement. Technicians can disconnect the terminal block from the rear chassis without dismantling the incoming and outgoing field wiring.

Environmental and Enclosure Inspection

Conduct visual inspections on a regular maintenance schedule to verify the structural integrity of the PC/ABS thermoplastic housing. Confirm that the flame-red RAL 3001 finish remains clean, clearly visible, and unobstructed by architectural fixtures, equipment, or signage along primary egress paths.

Verify that site operating conditions remain within the specified operational envelope of -10°C to 55°C and 10% to 93% non-condensing relative humidity. For surface-mounted units (89 mm W x 93 mm H x 59.5 mm D) and semi-flush configurations (89 mm W x 93 mm H x 27.5 mm D), ensure that mounting screws remain torqued securely to the back box to maintain the IP24D mechanical enclosure rating against particulate and moisture ingress. Wipe the exterior housing surfaces using a dry or lightly dampened non-abrasive lint-free cloth, avoiding solvents or chemical cleaners that could degrade the PC/ABS plastic or obscure the break-glass faceplate.
