Installation Guidelines and Wiring Procedures for Morley-IAS HM-MCP-GLASS

The Honeywell Morley-IAS HM-MCP-GLASS (also catalogued under HM-MCP-GLASS-AP and MOFHMMCPGLASS) analogue addressable manual call point is engineered with a plug-and-play architecture to streamline field deployment on intelligent fire alarm signaling loops. Proper installation requires adherence to physical mounting specifications, correct loop addressing via onboard decade switches, and electrical interconnection with compatible Morley-IAS fire alarm control panels (including ZX, DXc, and STX series).

Pre-Installation Site Requirements

Ensure the installation location meets the environmental operating limits of -10°C to 55°C and relative humidity levels between 10% and 93% non-condensing. The enclosure provides an ingress protection rating of IP24D, designed for indoor facility placement along escape routes, emergency exits, and designated fire call stations. The unit requires 15 V DC to 32 V DC operating voltage supplied directly from the analogue addressable loop communication circuit.

Loop Addressing via Rotary Switches

Before mechanically mounting the unit, the device address must be configured using the rotary decade switches located on the rear of the call point body. Each call point on the loop must possess a distinct address mapped in the fire alarm panel configuration. Turn the rotary decade dials using a standard flat-head adjustment screwdriver to align the unit to its assigned loop address number.

Mounting Configurations

The call point supports two mechanical mounting configurations depending on conduit layout and architectural specifications:

  • Semi-Flush Mounting: Installs directly onto a standard single-gang electrical enclosure. Overall semi-flush dimensions are 89 mm (W) x 93 mm (H) x 27.5 mm (D) with an installed assembly weight of approximately 110 g to 130 g.
  • Surface Mounting: Requires a compatible flame-red (RAL 3001) surface back box. Overall surface-mounted dimensions are 89 mm (W) x 93 mm (H) x 59.5 mm (D), with an assembled weight of 180 g.

Plug-and-Play Field Wiring Steps

The unit features a removable terminal block mechanism designed to facilitate continuity and insulation testing before the delicate electronics and frangible break-glass assembly are connected:

  • Step 1: Route the addressable loop wiring into the back box using appropriate conduit entries. Strip wire ends according to standard low-voltage signalling practices.
  • Step 2: Connect the incoming and outgoing loop conductors into the removable terminal connector block. Verify line polarity and test the loop circuit for continuity, grounds, and faults prior to seating the electronics.
  • Step 3: Insert the pre-wired terminal connector block firmly into the designated socket at the rear of the call point housing.
  • Step 4: Align the PC/ABS call point body over the back box and tighten the retaining screws to secure the housing firmly against the wall or back box face.

Commissioning and Functional Testing

Once loop power (15 V DC to 32 V DC) is applied from the Morley-IAS control panel, verify that the integral LED indicator displays a brief blinking red status, confirming active polling communication over the loop. In quiescent standby, current consumption is 80 µA at 24 V DC (no communications), rising to 130 µA at 24 V DC under communication.

Execute an initial functional test without shattering the frangible break-glass element: insert the specialized double-pronged test key into the aperture at the bottom of the unit. Pushing the key upward drops the internal glass carriage, releasing the operating microswitch. Confirm that the LED turns to continuous red and that the panel latches an active manual call point fire alarm. Remove the test key to re-engage the microswitch and reset the fire alarm control panel.
