Mounting, Wiring, and Address Configuration for the Honeywell HM-PTSE-AP

Proper installation of the Honeywell Morley-IAS HM-PTSE-AP intelligent addressable multi-criteria detector requires correct mechanical integration with the compatible plug-in base, precise field loop termination, and hardware addressing prior to system commissioning. Built from durable PC/ABS polymer, the detector head pairs directly with the standard B501AP intelligent detector plug-in base to form a low-profile assembly measuring 61 mm in height and 102 mm in diameter, with an installed weight of 99 g (including base).

Base Mounting and Field Wiring Preparation

The system cabling connects directly to the screw terminals of the B501AP mounting base. Base wiring terminals accommodate solid or stranded copper conductors up to a maximum wire gauge of 2.5 mm². Inserting the HM-PTSE-AP head into the B501AP base introduces a negligible circuit resistance with a typical loop resistance value of 20 mΩ (maximum 30 mΩ), minimizing loop line loss across large multi-sensor runs.

Installers must observe correct loop polarity when routing the signalling line circuit (SLC). The device operates on non-isolated loop voltages from 15 to 32 V DC, drawing a standby current of 200 µA at 24 V DC without polling communications, or 300 µA at 24 V DC when periodic 5-second LED polling blinks are enabled. For installations utilizing remote annunciation, the detector provides an integrated remote output terminal delivering 22.5 V DC at 10.8 mA when powered at 24 V DC, alongside an active alarm LED current draw of 3.5 mA at 24 V DC.

Hardware Addressing via Rotary Decade Switches

System addressing for the HM-PTSE-AP is configured via onboard rotary decade decimal address switches located on the unit. System engineers set the exact decimal address directly on the hardware prior to locking the detector into its base. This mechanical addressing approach ensures positive hardware verification without relying on electronic hand-held programming tools.

Once addressed and inserted into the B501AP base, the detector interfaces with Morley-IAS addressable fire alarm control panels running the Advanced Protocol (AP) platform, including Morley-IAS DXc series control panels (releases R7, R8, R9) and ZX series panels. The detector architecture is mechanically and electrically backwards compatible with legacy Morley-IAS protocol loops and intelligent mounting bases.

Environmental Siting and Mounting Limits

When selecting ceiling or surface locations for open-area fire detection, engineers must verify local ambient environmental conditions against device ratings:

  • Operating Temperature: Rated for operation between -30°C and +70°C. However, installation is strictly prohibited in locations where the normal operating ambient temperature exceeds 50°C.
  • Operating Humidity: Permissible relative humidity spans from 10% to 93% RH (non-condensing).
  • Thermal Activation Threshold: Built-in Class A1R thermal monitoring reacts to rate-of-rise thermal increases and implements a 58°C fixed temperature threshold.
  • Visual Indication: Dual integrated red LEDs provide 360-degree all-round local status visibility, ensuring alarm and polling indications are visible from any approach angle.

Commissioning and Maintenance Considerations

During initial configuration on the panel software, the detector can be assigned to standard multi-criteria sensing (conforming to EN 54-7 optical smoke, EN 54-5 Class A1R heat, and EN 54-29 multi-sensor standards) or programmed for day/night mode. Under day/night settings, the unit operates in heat-only mode during peak operational periods to prevent unwanted alarms before reverting to full photo-thermal operation during unoccupied periods.

For periodic testing and maintenance, the assembly features a washable chamber filter and an advanced optical smoothing algorithm to counteract site dust. Routine testing and status verification can be executed at height using compatible non-climb detector servicing poles and tools without detaching the head from the base.
