Honeywell Morley-IAS HM-PSE-S2 Mounting, Addressing, and Wiring Guide

The Honeywell Morley-IAS HM-PSE-S2 analog addressable photoelectric smoke detector is designed for field deployment across commercial, industrial, healthcare, institutional, and IT data center environments. Correct physical mounting, proper terminal wiring, and accurate manual addressing are vital to ensure full compliance with EN 54-7 and EN 54-17 system engineering requirements on compatible Morley-IAS fire alarm control panels (including the DXc, ZX, and PL series).

Base Compatibility and Mechanical Mounting

The HM-PSE-S2 sensor head integrates directly into the standardized Honeywell Morley-IAS B501AP plug-in mounting base. When seated fully within the B501AP base, the installed assembly measures 102 mm in diameter, 52 mm in total height, and has an assembled weight of 97 g. The detector housing is molded from an ivory-colored PC/ABS polymer blend.

During installation, the B501AP base should be securely fastened to a standard electrical backbox or directly to the ceiling surface prior to inserting the detector head. Once the base is wired and field continuity is verified, align the HM-PSE-S2 sensor body with the base and rotate clockwise until the head engages firmly into the electrical contacts. The unit incorporates dual integrated LEDs providing 360-degree status visibility from floor level.

Loop Wiring and Terminal Specifications

Field wiring must conform to the project schematics and panel design calculations. Terminals located on the B501AP base support solid or stranded conductors up to a maximum wire gauge of 2.5 mm².

  • Operating Voltage: 15 V DC to 32 V DC operating range supplied directly from the addressable signaling line circuit (SLC).
  • Standby Current Draw: 200 µA at 24 V DC under non-communicating conditions, and 300 µA at 24 V DC when periodic LED blink is enabled (pulsing once every 5 seconds).
  • Alarm Current: 3.5 mA at 24 V DC during active LED red alarm status.
  • Remote Annunciation: Auxiliary terminals provide a remote output rated at 22.5 V DC (at 24 V DC supply) with a maximum current delivery of 10.8 mA to drive optional external indicators.
  • Loop Impedance Factor: Inserting the detector into the B501AP base introduces a typical additional loop resistance of 20 mΩ (maximum 30 mΩ), which must be incorporated into long-run loop resistance calculations.

Address Setting via Rotary Decade Switches

The HM-PSE-S2 utilizes two onboard mechanical rotary decade switches located on the back of the detector head to set the unique loop address (01 to 99). Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to rotate the switches to the designated address selected on the fire system layout drawing. Both switches must be positively aligned with their numeric indicators before the detector is docked into the B501AP base. Care must be taken during commissioning to verify that duplicate loop addresses are not assigned, as address conflicts will trigger system reporting faults on the loop driver.

Environmental and Pre-Commissioning Checks

The detector operates reliably across an ambient temperature envelope from -30°C to +70°C and a relative humidity range of 10% to 93% (non-condensing). To safeguard the optical sensing chamber and avoid contamination faults, leave any protective dust covers intact until all nearby interior construction, painting, and sanding operations are completely finished. System commissioning can proceed once the addressable loop is energized at nominal 24 V DC and polling communication is acknowledged at the central Morley-IAS panel.
