Two-Stage Evacuation & Phased Alert Schemes

The GST I-9403 Intelligent Sounder Strobe is engineered for facilities requiring structured emergency alerting protocols. In large multi-occupancy complexes, commercial campuses, and institutional facilities, sudden general evacuation can create hazardous bottlenecks. Configured in dual-address mode via the GST P-9910B handheld programmer, the device supports a staged 'Evacuate + Alert' notification framework. When the initial supervisory or pre-alarm address is triggered by the fire alarm control panel, the sounder activates a dedicated pre-alarm tone (800Hz pulsing 1s off / 1s on at 76dB at 1m), warning designated staff or localized zones without causing building-wide panic.

If the emergency condition is confirmed or broad evacuation is required, the control panel triggers the second address, initiating full acoustic evacuation utilizing high-output tones such as Tone 14 (2400Hz to 2900Hz @ 3Hz producing 86dB at 1m) or Tone 16 (500Hz to 1200Hz producing 84dB at 1m), accompanied by the high-intensity LED visual cluster.

Loop-Powered Retrofits vs. Externally Powered Installations

System designers face distinct constraints when deploying notification appliances across new construction versus building retrofits. The I-9403 supports dual operational topologies:

  • Loop-Powered Retrofit Applications: Where pulling additional field cabling is cost-prohibitive, the unit operates entirely from the non-polarized detection loop (terminals Z1 and Z2, 20VDC to 28VDC). In this configuration, the unit operates strictly in power-saving mode (standby monitor current ≤2mA; start current ≤9mA). A maximum of 20 sounder units can be supported per loop, providing compliant signaling without requiring secondary power runs.
  • High-Current Dedicated Power Distribution: For expansive facilities requiring maximum acoustic coverage, the device connects to external 24VDC auxiliary circuits via non-polarized D1 and D2 terminals. Operating in normal mode, the device achieves maximum acoustic output with an external power start current of ≤35mA while reducing loop start draw to ≤2mA, enabling dense network layouts across industrial floors.

Selective Signaling in Specialized Operational Zones

Industrial control rooms, server rooms, and medical clean zones frequently require non-disruptive or tailored alert sequences. Through the P-9910B programmer, technical personnel can selectively switch off either the acoustic sounder output or the optical strobe cluster. In control rooms and broadcast booths, setting the I-9403 to visual-only mode ensures urgent silent alerting via the high-intensity LED cluster without compromising operator communications. Conversely, in environments where optical flashing is hazardous, sounder-only mode delivers certified EN54-3 acoustic notification.

Industrial Corridors & Exposed Conduit Pathways

With an IP33 ABS plastic housing and an operational temperature range of -10°C to +50°C (up to 95% non-condensing relative humidity), the device is installed across manufacturing facilities, plant rooms, and distribution warehouses. For flush installations, the standard shallow base mounts directly to terminal boxes using 55mm to 80mm/83mm hole pitch patterns. In surface-mounted conduit installations common to industrial retrofit spaces, integration with the optional C-94DB deep base provides secure cable glands and wiring clearance when connected to GST100, GST200-2, GST200N, and GST-IFP8 intelligent fire panels.
