Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) Interoperability
The GST I-9104 Intelligent Ultraviolet Flame Detector is engineered for direct system integration with intelligent GST Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP). The panel continuously polls the detector across the loop, monitoring its operating state and receiving rapid fire and fault transmissions generated by the onboard microprocessor algorithm. The integrated red LED indicator confirms ongoing communication by flashing during standard loop polling and transitioning to a steady illumination upon alarm state activation.
Loop signaling and detector reset functions comply with GST addressable protocol parameters. The device clears latching alarm events via an instantaneous loop power interruption of 5 seconds maximum at 2.5 VDC maximum, resuming active detection within a power-up window of 5 seconds or less.
Loop Electrical and Cabling Specifications
The detector interfaces with the fire alarm loop via a two-wire, non-polarized connection, minimizing field wiring errors during multi-point deployments. System designers and installers must adhere to the following loop electrical parameters:
- Operating Loop Voltage: Rated at 24 VDC, with an operational tolerance spanning 12 VDC to 28 VDC.
- Loop Current Consumption: Standby current draw is 2 mA or less; alarm action current draw is 2.5 mA or less.
- Field Conductor Sizing: Requires 1.0 mm² or larger copper-core cable. Field conductors terminate at any two diagonal connection points on the mounting base.
Mounting Base and Mechanical Interface
The I-9104 detector head mechanically mates with the GST DZ-03 Common Detector Base. Engagement is achieved by positioning the base alignment indicators against the detector bottom and rotating the unit clockwise until firmly seated. When mounted to the DZ-03 base, the unit measures 103 mm in diameter by 53.5 mm in height (compared to 100 mm diameter by 41 mm height for the standalone detector head, which weighs approximately 110 g). The DZ-03 base supports standard electrical back boxes with mounting hole spacings ranging between 45 mm and 75 mm.
Field Configuration Tools and Addressing
Addressing and functional adjustments are executed electronically using the dedicated GST P-9910B Hand Held Programmer. The device does not utilize mechanical DIP or rotary switches. Field engineers use the P-9910B on site to configure:
- Loop Electronic Address: Assigns one unique address within the 1 to 242 range.
- Sensitivity Settings: Configures one of three pre-set sensitivity profiles calibrated against a 2000 g industrial ethanol fire (33 cm x 33 cm x 5 cm tray): Level I (25 m detection distance), Level II (17 m detection distance), or Level III (12 m detection distance).
Environmental and Optical Compatibility Constraints
The internal optical sensor operates within a targeted ultraviolet spectral band of 185 nm to 260 nm. To maintain operational integrity and avoid false trigger phenomena, environmental deployment must account for specific optical exclusions:
- Environmental Envelope: Enclosure is rated IP21 and fabricated from white (RAL 9016) ABS plastic, designed to operate in ambient temperatures from -20°C to +55°C and relative humidity levels up to 95% (non-condensing).
- Optical Line-of-Sight Requirements: The detector requires an unshielded view of the protected hazard; it is incompatible with locations where physical obstacles obscure optical line-of-sight.
- Incompatible Fire Profiles: Unsuitable for hazards characterized purely by smoldering combustion or environments where dense, thick smoke spreads prior to open flame development.
- Optical Interference Sources: Incompatible with areas exposed to direct or indirect sunlight onto the sensor window, high-intensity artificial UV radiation (including halogen or tungsten fixtures), open electrical arcs, active welding operations, sparking, or industrial X-ray equipment.
