About this product .

The GST DI-9101E Intelligent Combination Heat Photoelectric Smoke Detector integrates an optical sensing chamber with a semiconductor thermistor in a single compact housing. Molded from durable ABS polymer with an IP2X ingress rating for indoor use, the device features a removable sensing chamber engineered for fast on-site servicing and dust clearance.
Featuring dual detection principles, the unit combines light-scattering smoke measurement with Class A2R rate-of-rise thermal detection calibrated to an action temperature of 62 degrees Celsius. This hybrid capability allows earlier identification of smoldering fires with dense black smoke particles as well as fast-flaming, clean-burning alcohol fires that traditional optical detectors might delay in detecting.
The detector operates on a non-polarized two-wire addressable loop supply from 16V DC to 28V DC (nominal 24V DC). It consumes an ultra-low standby current of no more than 0.8mA, rising to 1.8mA in alarm, or 3.8mA when driving an external remote indicator such as the GST C-9314P.
Addressing and operational parameters are configured electronically across a range of 1 to 242 using the GST P-9910B handheld programmer. Commissioning engineers can select between two smoke sensitivity levels (Level 1 compliant with EN 54-7), toggle the thermal response modes, and disable the flashing polling LED for sensitive environments such as hospitality guest rooms or control centers.
A built-in omnidirectional red LED illuminates continuously in fire condition and flashes during loop polling, offering 360-degree visibility from any orientation below the ceiling. The unit also includes internal drift compensation and dirty chamber self-diagnostics to prevent contamination-induced false alarms.
The detector mounts to the included GST DB-01 standard base, which supports European back boxes with 45mm to 75mm screw hole spacing. Recommended maintenance includes annual chamber cleaning and bi-annual functional testing using smoldering test tools, a heat source, or commissioning magnets placed at the dedicated reed switch test zone.

It natively communicates over the proprietary GST intelligent loop protocol, transmitting dual-criteria smoke obscuration and thermal data directly to the head-end automation system. Certified compatible panels include:

GST100 Intelligent Fire Alarm Control Panel
GST200N Intelligent Fire Alarm Control Panel
GST-IFP4E Intelligent Fire Alarm Control Panel
GST-IFP8 Intelligent Fire Alarm Control Panel

Approved Detector Bases & Peripherals

The detector interfaces mechanically and electrically with compatible GST mounting bases and auxiliary modules. Field engineers must select from the following verified hardware units:

DB-01 Standard Base (Product No. 30205764): Standard twist-lock base supplied for conventional installations. Features terminals 1 and 3 for non-polarized loop connections, terminal 2 for remote indicator positive (+), and terminal 4 for remote indicator negative (-).
DC-9504E Diode Base (Product No. 10105103): Specialized diode base engineered for specific loop continuity monitoring architectures.
C-9314P Remote Indicator (Product No. 10102339): Remote LED annunciator powered directly via the detector’s polarized remote output. The DI-9101E integrates a built-in 10kΩ series resistor providing a regulated 2mA output current that causes the C-9314P to flash during an alarm condition and remain unlit during standby.
P-9910B Handheld Programmer (Product No. 10104894): Essential field tool required to set electronic address codes within the range of 1 to 242 and configure programmable sensitivity profiles (e.g., parameter codes 1, 129, and 130).

Electrical Loop Parameters & Sizing

The DI-9101E draws operating power directly from the 2-wire signaling line circuit (SLC). To ensure stable performance across all loops, calculate electrical loading within the following engineering boundaries:

Loop Operating Voltage: Nominal 24V DC, operational range from 16V DC to 28V DC.
Standby Current Draw: ≤0.8mA per unit during regular polling.
Alarm Current Draw: ≤1.8mA (without remote indicator connected); ≤3.8mA (when driving a remote indicator such as the C-9314P).
Field Cabling: Requires 1.0mm² or greater cross-section fire-rated cable laid through metal or flame-retardant conduit. Distinct cable colors must be utilized for the remote indicator connections to eliminate polarity reversal.

Mounting Box & Structural Compatibility

The DB-01 mounting base is designed to mount onto standard European embedded electrical back boxes with screw fixing centers ranging from 45mm to 75mm. The unit connects to the base by aligning alignment mark A on the detector body with mark B on the base, followed by clockwise rotation until mark A locks into alignment with mark C. The assembled detector and base measure 100mm in diameter and 54.5mm in height, operating reliably under flat ceilings up to 25 meters high with an individual smoke detection radius of 7.5 meters.

Installation, Wiring, and Commissioning Guide for GST DI-9101E

Base Mounting and Physical Positioning

The GST DI-9101E Intelligent Combination Heat Photoelectric Smoke Detector is engineered for surface or flush ceiling installation utilizing the GST DB-01 Standard Base (Product No. 30205764) or the compatible DC-9504E Diode Base. The DB-01 base mounts directly to standard European embedded electrical back boxes with mounting hole spacing between 45 mm and 75 mm, secured by two tapping screws. The physical assembly has an overall diameter of 100 mm and a combined height of 54.5 mm with an approximate weight of 110 g. The ABS enclosure is IP2X rated and designed strictly for indoor commercial, institutional, and industrial fire alarm networks.

When positioning the detector, spatial design must comply with relevant fire safety engineering standards, such as EN 54-14 Annex A.6.4. For the optical smoke detection element, the unit provides an effective operating coverage radius of 7.5 meters beneath flat ceilings at heights below 25 meters. The installation environment must remain within the operating temperature envelope of -10°C to 50°C and a relative humidity threshold not exceeding 95% (non-condensing).

Loop and Remote Indicator Terminal Wiring

Field wiring requires a minimum conductor cross-section of 1.0 mm² or above fire-rated cable laid through grounded steel conduit or flame-retardant rigid conduit in accordance with local fire alarm wiring codes. The DB-01 mounting base incorporates a 4-terminal layout providing polarity-insensitive signal loop connection and supervised auxiliary outputs:

Terminals 1 & 3 (Loop In / Loop Out): Non-polarized connections for the addressable detection loop, operating across a nominal loop voltage of 24V DC (allowable input range: 16V DC to 28V DC). Polarity independence prevents circuit faults caused by reversed field wiring.
Terminal 2 (Remote Indicator +): Positive polarized connection for driving an external indicator such as the GST C-9314P Remote Indicator. Contains an internal 10 kΩ series resistor delivering a 2 mA drive current.
Terminal 4 (Remote Indicator -): Negative polarized return terminal for the remote indicator output. Dedicated cable color differentiation is recommended for external indicator circuits to prevent site termination errors.

Head Mechanical Alignment and Dust Protection

Once the base is secured and field wiring is completed, attach the DI-9101E detector head using the integrated directional alignment indicators. Position the detector over the base and align alignment mark A located on the detector body with mark B on the DB-01 base. Push the detector head inward and rotate it clockwise until mark A aligns flush with mark C on the base, locking the electrical contacts firmly in place.

Each detector is shipped with a factory dust-proof cover. This cover must remain fitted throughout the entire construction, painting, and pre-commissioning phase. Removing the cover prematurely exposes the removable optical-heat sensing chamber to airborne particulate contamination, which can compromise optical baseline calibration and trigger unwanted false alarms. The protective dust cover must only be removed immediately prior to commissioning and operational handover.

Electronic Addressing and Pre-Commissioning Verification

Before putting the loop into service with compatible GST fire alarm control panels (including GST100, GST200N, GST-IFP4E, and GST-IFP8), each detector must be electronically addressed within the range of 1 to 242 using the GST P-9910B Handheld Programmer (Product No. 10104894). The device does not use manual DIP or rotary switches. Factory configuration defaults to Parameter Code 1 (Smoke Sensitivity Level 1 [0.084 dB/m to 0.162 dB/m, EN 54-7 compliant], Class A2R Rate-of-Rise heat detection with a 62°C action threshold, and an active red 360° polling LED). In applications where polling LED flashes cause visual distraction, commissioning engineers can configure the programmer to Parameter Code 129 (Level 1 sensitivity) or Parameter Code 130 (Level 2 sensitivity) to disable the polling pulse while retaining full continuous alarm illumination.

Initial commissioning acceptance requires verified operational testing using either a commissioning magnet placed against the magnetic test zone for reed switch activation, a smoldering cotton rope for smoke chamber verification, or an industrial heat source directed at the Class A2R thermistor.

Maintenance, Servicing, and Field Testing for GST DI-9101E

Routine maintenance and functional verification are essential to maintain the operational reliability of the GST DI-9101E Intelligent Combination Heat Photoelectric Smoke Detector. Designed with an innovative removable sensing chamber, an optical smoke sensor, and a semiconductor heat sensor within an IP2X-rated ABS enclosure, the unit features built-in drift compensation and automated dirty chamber checking. Establishing a disciplined servicing routine ensures compliant multi-criteria detection across addressable loop installations.

Mandatory Inspection and Testing Schedule

Facility maintenance teams must observe strict preventive intervals to sustain system integrity across commercial and industrial environments:

Semi-Annual Functional Testing: A complete fire simulation test must be carried out on every installed DI-9101E detector at least once every 6 months.
Annual Cleaning: Detectors must be disassembled and cleaned regularly, at least once a year, to prevent particulate accumulation from compromising the dual-sensor assembly.
Pre-Commissioning Dust Protection: The factory-supplied dust-proof cover must remain firmly in place during construction, civil works, and cable pulls. It must not be removed until the site installation is commissioned and ready for active operational usage to prevent false alarms and internal contamination.

Field Testing Procedures

Functional checks verify both optical smoke response and Class A2R thermal response (rated action temperature of 62°C). Field testing can be performed using three approved methods:

Magnetic Reed Switch Testing: Locate the designated magnetic test zone on the detector housing. Position the magnet of the commissioning tool directly against the zone and hold it steadily for several seconds until the detector registers an alarm.
Smoke Simulation Test: Introduce controlled smoke into the optical chamber using smoldering cotton rope until the threshold is crossed and the alarm triggers.
Thermal Response Test: Direct a controlled heat source, such as a commercial hot-air blower or hair dryer, toward the semiconductor thermistor element to confirm heat detection triggering.

Upon a valid test activation, verify that the 360° red fire LED transitions from its polling pulse (if enabled) to a continuous steady illumination. If connected via DB-01 terminals 2 and 4 to an external C-9314P remote indicator, confirm that the remote indicator flashes during the alarm state.

Optical Chamber Removal and Cleaning Protocol

Whenever recurring unwanted alarms occur or during the mandatory annual overhaul, service personnel must clean the removable sensing chamber using the following mechanical procedure:

Step 1 (Isolate Loop): Disconnect power from the 24V DC loop (16V to 28V DC operating range) prior to touching or dismounting the detector.
Step 2 (Dismount Unit): Rotate the detector counter-clockwise from the DB-01 standard base, shifting alignment mark A away from mark C toward mark B, and remove the detector head.
Step 3 (Disassemble Enclosure): Carefully open the outer top cover of the ABS detector body.
Step 4 (Extract Chamber): Insert a straight flat-blade screwdriver into the retaining tabs and gently lift both sides of the sensing chamber to draw it out from the circuit structure.
Step 5 (Clear Particulates): Clear all accumulated airborne dust, debris, and lint from the optical labyrinth and the semiconductor sensing pathway using clean, oil-free compressed air or a soft brush.
Step 6 (Reassembly and Verification): Reseat the chamber firmly into the chassis, replace the top cover, mount the detector back onto the DB-01 base by aligning mark A to B and twisting to mark C, restore loop power, and conduct a functional test.

Troubleshooting and Fault Management

The DI-9101E employs internal self-diagnostic routines combined with drift compensation to adapt dynamically to gradual dust buildup. However, excessive environmental contamination can eventually exceed the algorithm compensation limits:

Recurring Unwanted Alarms: Clean the sensing chamber following the extraction protocol above. If false alarms persist after cleaning and reseating, the internal sensing elements may be compromised and the unit must be returned for bench repair.
Failed Simulation Tests: If a detector fails to trigger during reed switch, smoke, or heat simulation, dismount and clean the chamber immediately. Re-test the unit under loop voltage. If it continues to fail detection, remove the device from service and return it for repair.
Visual Polling Distractions: In occupied spaces where the 360° flashing red polling LED causes distraction, the polling flash can be disabled without affecting alarm reporting by reprogramming the device via the GST P-9910B handheld programmer (Parameter 129 for Sensitivity Level 1, or Parameter 130 for Sensitivity Level 2).

Industrial and Commercial Applications for the GST DI-9101E Detector

The GST DI-9101E Intelligent Combination Heat Photoelectric Smoke Detector (Product No. 10106285), mounted on the GST DB-01 Standard Base (Product No. 30205764), provides multi-criteria life-safety sensing across commercial, industrial, and institutional infrastructures. Combining a semiconductor heat sensor classified under Class A2R (with a 62°C rated action temperature and rate-of-rise verification) alongside an optical smoke-sensing chamber, the device addresses diverse combustion profiles that single-sensor detectors cannot effectively manage.

High-Volume Facilities and High-Ceiling Enclosures

According to manufacturer engineering data, the DI-9101E provides an operating radius of 7.5 meters under flat ceilings up to 25 meters in height. This makes the unit suitable for spacious commercial buildings, distribution facilities, logistics centers, and tall atriums requiring addressable fire coverage governed by EN 54-14 standards.

Its low standby current consumption (≤0.8mA at nominal 24V DC loop voltage) and low alarm current (≤1.8mA without remote indicator, ≤3.8mA with remote indicator) allow system designers to maximize device loading across long loop runs on GST100, GST200N, GST-IFP4E, and GST-IFP8 addressable fire alarm control panels.

Environments Prone to Fast-Burning and Clean-Combustion Fires

Standard optical smoke detectors struggle to detect fast, clean-burning combustion that releases minimal aerosol particulate. The DI-9101E is specifically deployed to protect areas exposed to clean-burning fuels:

Chemical Storage and Laboratories: Rapid-burning fires such as alcohol flames yield swift temperature surges without dense initial particulate. The Class A2R heat-sensing element reacts dynamically to these temperature rises.
Manufacturing and Fabrication Facilities: Production floors subject to potential liquid fuel or solvent ignitions benefit from the dual optical and thermal verification circuitry, mitigating risks of delayed response.
Combustible Material Warehousing: Capable of detecting dense black smoke with small particulate profiles as well as open flaming fires, ensuring early warning across mixed-material storage racks.

Concealed Spaces, Voids, and Restricted Rooms

Facilities containing enclosed server rooms, secure plant rooms, service tunnels, or ceiling voids utilize the DI-9101E in conjunction with the optional GST C-9314P remote indicator. Terminals 2 and 4 on the DB-01 base deliver a polarized 2mA output via an internal 10kΩ series resistor to drive the remote LED.

When installed above false ceilings or inside locked utility closets, the external indicator flashes during an active alarm condition while remaining unlit during normal standby, allowing safety personnel to immediately locate the alarm source from corridors or walkways without opening access hatches.

Environments Requiring Controlled Visual Indicators

In environments such as hotel guest rooms, hospital wards, control rooms, or cinema halls where periodic LED pulsing creates a visual disturbance, the DI-9101E provides programmable operational modes via the P-9910B handheld programmer:

Parameter 129: Sets Smoke Sensitivity to Level 1 (0.084 dB/m to 0.162 dB/m, EN 54-7 compliant), activates Rate of Rise heat detection, and switches the polling LED completely OFF.
Parameter 130: Sets Smoke Sensitivity to Level 2 (0.101 dB/m to 0.220 dB/m), activates Rate of Rise heat detection, and switches the polling LED OFF.

In the event of an authentic fire condition, the 360° red fire indicator overrides the quiet mode and illuminates continuously to direct emergency response personnel.

Dust-Prone Indoor Industrial Applications

Operating within -10°C to 50°C and up to 95% non-condensing relative humidity, the IP2X ABS enclosure features integrated drift compensation algorithms and automatic dirty chamber checking. In environments with fluctuating background dust, the onboard processor adjusts its baseline calibration to preserve true sensitivity levels. When contamination thresholds require servicing, the removable sensing chamber can be easily lifted out using a straight screwdriver for maintenance, minimizing downtime during mandatory annual system servicing.
