Civil Foundation and Footprint Compatibility
The FAAC B680H barrier cabinet measures 469 mm in width, 279 mm in depth, and 1,100 mm in height, with a complete operational weight of 85 kg. The structural load is partitioned between a 65 kg internal load-bearing upright post and a 20 kg external removable housing. For retrofit and facility upgrade installations, the barrier foundation anchoring layout is fully retrocompatible with legacy FAAC 620 and FAAC 640 foundation plates, eliminating the requirement for ground slab demolition when replacing older hydraulic barriers.
Mechanical Structural Sequence and Enclosure Assembly
The structural installation of the B680H differs from conventional single-cabinet barriers by utilizing a dual-stage assembly method:
- Upright Anchorage: The internal load-bearing upright post—finished with a 100-micron epoxy zinc anti-corrosion primer treatment plus paint—is anchored directly to the concrete foundation plate via the primary securing bolts.
- Pocket and Arm Installation: The mechanical beam pocket and the chosen windproof round or elliptically profiled aluminium beam are fitted and secured directly to the load-bearing upright post prior to attaching the aesthetic outer casing.
- Housing Placement: Once the internal upright post, pocket, and boom arm are in place, the non load-bearing outer housing (available in steel or stainless steel across four colour options) is slid down over the upright assembly and fastened at the base. This architecture allows maintenance technicians to pull up and replace the outer housing without dismantling the upright, drive pivot, pocket, or boom arm.
Modular Beam Assembly and Balancing
For large perimeter openings spanning up to an 8.0 m net clear roadway (reaching a total maximum beam length of 8.3 m), the B680H utilizes a modular beam architecture. Two aluminium arm sections are coupled together using an internal connection joint that remains invisible once secured. All beam configurations incorporate bottom protective rubber bumpers to absorb contact. Mechanical balance is counterweighted by heavy-duty balancing springs tested to exceed 2,000,000 continuous operation cycles without mechanical failure.
Electrical Cabling, Control Board, and Device Integration
Incoming electrical supply connects to an integrated switching power supply that accepts 100 Vac to 240 Vac (+10% / -10%) at 50/60 Hz, drawing 240 W absorbed power and 1.1 A at 230 V. The power supply feeds the 36 Vdc brushless electric motor and integrated hydraulic pump assembly (delivering up to 3.2 l/min flow capacity utilizing FAAC HP OIL hydraulic fluid).
Control wiring is organized in the barrier head:
- Top DIN Rail: An integrated DIN rail is pre-installed in the upper compartment to simplify field wiring and termination of external automation accessories.
- E680 Control Unit: Positioned in a transparent protective enclosure at the top of the barrier for direct visibility and access. The microprocessor controller includes plug-in interfaces for GSM, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi modules, as well as dedicated connections for an optional anti-vandalism hydraulic bypass valve, anti-panic manual release group, pivoting breakout pocket sensor, and skirt accessories (available in 2 m and 3 m configurations).
- Inductive Loops: Two high-sensitivity loop detectors are built directly onto the E680 motherboard, eliminating the requirement for third-party loop detector modules.
- Auxiliary Backup Power: If continuous power failover is required, the control section accommodates the optional XBAT 24 backup module (batteries are not included) utilizing Nickel-Metal Hydride cells (they are not included) with an integrated charging circuit.
Two-Step Commissioning and Encoder Calibration
Field commissioning of the E680 controller is completed via an automated 2-step setup process on the control board. Motor rotation speed is dynamically regulated from 1,000 RPM up to 6,000 RPM, operating across continuous 100% duty cycles with opening speeds under 1.5 seconds for 2.3 m booms and under 6.0 seconds for 8.3 m booms. The integrated absolute encoder provides complete motion control, continuously registering shaft position to deliver smooth electronic deceleration and trigger instantaneous automatic reversing curves upon obstacle impact. The completed installation maintains an independently verified TÜV Süd IP56 ingress protection rating across operating temperatures from -15°C to +65°C.
