FAAC 844 R 3 PH Electrical, Mechanical, and Peripheral Compatibility

The FAAC 844 R 3 PH electro-mechanical gearmotor (ERP Ref: KTI02006002844P) is engineered as an industrial-grade drive unit designed to automate commercial and industrial sliding gates. Proper field installation requires precise mechanical matching of drive pinions, designated three-phase electrical connections, and coordinated integration with external control boards, inductive limit sensors, and peripheral safety devices.

Control Board & Electrical Power System Compatibility

The 844 R 3 PH motor does not incorporate an onboard control card. It is specifically designed to be operated via a remote installation of the dedicated FAAC 844 T three-phase microprocessor control board (control unit is not included with the gearmotor). Electrical and control compatibility parameters include:

  • Line Voltage: 400 Vac three-phase (+6% / -10%) at 50/60 Hz frequency.
  • Motor Load Management: The FAAC 844 T control board accommodates a maximum motor load of up to 1,300 W (1.3 kW), fully supporting the 950 W absorbed power and 2.5 A absorbed current of the 844 R 3 PH electric motor.
  • Integrated Power Contactors & Braking: The 844 T panel incorporates dedicated industrial power contactors and an integrated electronic braking device to arrest inertia on high-mass gate panels.
  • Auxiliary Power Output: The 844 T controller supplies a 24 Vdc accessory output rated up to a maximum of 500 mA to power external access control and optical safety hardware.

Drive Pinion and Gate Mass Configurations

Mechanical rack interface compatibility depends directly on the selection of the output drive pinion. The unit supports both Z12 and Z16 tooth pinion profiles, which determine maximum permissible gate mass and operational travel speed:

Pinion TypeMaximum Gate WeightLinear Gate SpeedReduction Ratio
Z12 Pinion2,200 kg7.2 m/min1:30 (1,400 rpm motor)
Z16 Pinion1,600 kg9.5 m/min1:30 (1,400 rpm motor)

Both pinion configurations utilize the internal 1:30 reduction gearbox and twin-disk anti-crushing clutch running in an oil bath of FAAC OIL XD 220. Torque output is mechanically adjustable from 0 to 62 Nm via a hexagonal key directly on the clutch assembly to meet gate mechanical load requirements.

Peripheral Safety and Access Control Compatibility

The system architecture supports direct terminal interfacing through the FAAC 844 T controller and junction box layout for the following FAAC hardware:

  • End-of-Stroke Sensing: Inductive limit-switch assembly with dedicated target plates mounted on the gate rack.
  • Active Safety Detection: FAAC FOTOSWITCH safety photocells and CN 60 E mechanical or resistive safety edges.
  • Visual Signalling: FAACLIGHT industrial flashing indicator lamp.
  • Access Triggering: FAAC T10 key selector switch and FAAC PLUS 1 433 radio receiver card.

Foundation and Physical Interface

The gearmotor has an external footprint of 275 mm (L) x 191 mm (W) x 397 mm (H) and an overall operating weight of 15 kg with oil. For civil installation, the operator is compatible with an optional galvanised steel foundation plate engineered with integrated side and height adjustments. Because the internal mechanical design is non-reversing, it holds the gate securely closed upon motor stop, eliminating the requirement for electric locking hardware. In power outages, manual gate transit is enabled using the integrated lever-operated release mechanism fitted with a coded key.
