eSSL EAS-AM-88 M&S Master Antenna Installation and Setup Guidelines

Installing the eSSL EAS-AM-88 M&S (Master) Acousto-Magnetic (AM) electronic article surveillance pedestal requires careful physical positioning, clean electrical supply wiring, and precise software-based calibration. Operating on the standard 58 kHz resonance frequency, this master antenna manages signal transmission and reception across commercial retail checkout corridors and store exits.

Corridor Dimensions and Detection Width Planning

Pedestal layout planning must be aligned with the specific tag media deployed throughout the retail facility:

  • Acoustic DR Sheet Labels: Position pedestals to maintain an aisle corridor spacing between 150 cm and 180 cm (1.5 m to 1.8 m) for reliable label detection.
  • Standard 58 kHz Hard Tags: Permit an expanded corridor spacing between 1.8 m and 2.4 m between transceiver elements.

Corridor paths must remain free of high-power floor conduits, large structural steel framing, or motorized display fixtures that could induce continuous magnetic field distortion.

Mechanical Footprint and Mounting

The EAS-AM-88 M&S master antenna features a slim physical profile measuring 1630 mm in height, 470 mm in width, and 25 mm in depth. Built from fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) with a gray finish frame, the pedestal weighs 26 kg net (packaged shipping weight is 29 kg in a 1700 mm x 530 mm x 280 mm carton). Secure floor anchoring must be established on a level, structurally sound surface near the point of ingress or egress, ensuring the unit stands vertically plumb to maintain uniform 58 kHz field propagation.

Electrical Supply and Interconnection Requirements

The internal power supply board of the master unit accepts wide-range AC mains input:

  • Supply Voltage: 110 V to 220 V AC single-phase line.
  • Power Consumption: 200 W maximum total system power draw, with an individual antenna work rate of 25 W.
  • Operating Temperature: Ensure the installation zone stays within the rated ambient thermal threshold of -5 °C to 50 °C.
  • DC Auxiliary Output: The master controller provides a dedicated 24 V DC, 3 A output designed to deliver power and operational drive directly to an interconnected slave pedestal.

System Configuration: Mono vs. Master/Slave

The EAS-AM-88 M&S architecture supports two distinct operational topologies:

  • Standalone Mono Mode: The pedestal acts as an independent single-transceiver pillar handling both pulse transmission and signal reception for narrow entranceways.
  • Master/Slave Topology: The master unit synchronizes with a secondary passive slave antenna (eSSL EAS-AM-88 Slave), routing control signals and the 24 V DC (3 A) line to create a balanced, multi-pedestal detection zone across wider store portals.

DSP Calibration and Commissioning

Following hardware assembly and line connection, the unit's upgraded smart chip processor and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) engine require configuration:

Integrators must execute software-based anti-interference tuning to adjust dynamic baseline noise thresholds against ambient electromagnetic emissions, such as nearby LED power drivers, high-voltage conduits, or fluorescent lighting ballasts. Commissioning is finalized by setting the adjustable sounder volume, configuring the customized flashing LED visual alarm alerts, and conducting multi-orientation walk-through detection checks using calibrated 58 kHz DR labels and hard tags across the full width of the corridor.
