Preventative Servicing and Maintenance Guidelines for CAME BK-1800

Routine preventative maintenance is critical for sustaining the operational reliability, mechanical alignment, and safety compliance of the CAME BK-1800 electromechanical sliding gate operator. Managing structural loads up to 1800 kg and leaf lengths up to 20 meters requires structured inspection intervals to prevent premature wear on the self-locking drive train, electrical controls, and transmission hardware.

Track Clearance and Physical Alignment

The ground track must be kept clear of gravel, dirt, silt, and mechanical obstructions at all times. Physical debris along the track introduces rolling resistance that forces the 480 W motor to draw excessive current beyond its nominal 4.2 A rating, accelerating wear on internal drive components.

Inspect the interface between the transmission pinion (module 4 or module 6) and the toothed rack along the entire gate leaf travel. A vertical play clearance of 1 to 2 mm must be strictly maintained between the pinion teeth and the rack teeth. The 1800 kg gate mass must never rest directly upon the motor pinion shaft; direct loading causes shaft binding, accelerates gear teeth erosion, and compromises the electromechanical gear motor.

Ensure that heavy-duty mechanical end stops remain securely anchored to the foundation at both ends of the track. Verify that the limit switch fins fastened to the rack strike the operator's electromechanical limit switches correctly before the gate physically impacts the mechanical stops.

Manual Release Mechanism Maintenance

The internal manual release mechanism must be serviced and manually exercised at least once per month. To maintain manual disengagement readiness during mains power outages:

  • Unlock the front access hatch using the dedicated triangular key.
  • Apply lubrication to the manual release key cylinder and the internal pivoting lever mechanism inside the front compartment.
  • Disengage the irreversible gear motor and manually push the gate leaf across its full travel path to verify low-friction rolling.
  • Re-engage the self-locking drive mechanism and confirm that the gate leaf locks securely into place.

Electrical Infrastructure and Safety Device Inspection

The CAME BK-1800 operator utilizes an integrated control board housed inside an IP 44 enclosure. Comprehensive preventative servicing must be conducted at intervals of 3 to 12 months, governed by operational duty cycles and site traffic volume:

  • Terminal Block Connections: Ensure all screw terminals on the control board are torque-checked and free of corrosion or loose wiring, maintaining proper earthing for this Class I apparatus.
  • Circuit Protection: Inspect the condition of on-board quick fuses protecting the 230 V AC primary circuit and the 24 V AC auxiliary output.
  • Capacitor Integrity: Verify electrical performance of the 31.5 µF starting capacitor. A degraded capacitor reduces starting torque below the rated 1150 N thrust output, leading to motor stalling.
  • Thermal Protection Diagnostics: If nuisance shutdowns occur during high-frequency cycles, check for thermal cut-out activation. The motor incorporates an internal 150 °C thermal sensor that interrupts operation until stator winding temperatures drop within safe operating limits (-20 °C to +55 °C ambient).
  • Safety Devices: Test optical safety beams, 8k2Ω resistive safety edges, and auxiliary warning lights connected to the 24 V AC (20 W max) and 230 V AC (25 W max) outputs to ensure active reversing logic operates without delay.
