Foundation Preparation & Base Mounting
Proper mechanical installation of the CAME BK-1800 operator begins with a dedicated, structurally sound concrete foundation plinth. The base surface must be completely level before securing the 19.5 kg operator; the system must never be installed on slopes or inclined surfaces. The mounting position must align parallel to the gate leaf travel axis to withstand continuous dynamic stresses, including the operator's maximum thrust force of 1150 N when propelling gates up to 1800 kg and leaf lengths up to 20 meters.
Rack Alignment and Pinion Meshing
The electromechanical irreversible drive interfaces with the gate leaf using either a module 4 or module 6 toothed rack transmission. When securing the rack along the bottom profile of the gate, strict adherence to vertical clearance tolerances is required:
- Maintain a clearance gap of 1 mm to 2 mm between the pinion teeth and the rack teeth across the entire travel stroke.
- Never allow the dead weight of the sliding gate to rest directly on the drive pinion. Excessive downward load directly damages the pinion shaft assembly, accelerates gear wear, and triggers mechanical binding.
- Verify that the ground track is thoroughly cleaned and free of gravel, sand, and construction debris to prevent drive resistance and motor overload.
Mechanical Stops & Limit Switch Configuration
External mechanical end stops must be securely anchored at both extremities of the ground track. These positive physical stops are mandatory safety elements designed to prevent gate derailment in the event of overtravel. Setting the mechanical travel span requires attaching the supplied limit switch fins directly onto the toothed rack:
- Position the limit switch trip fins at the designated fully open and fully closed points along the rack profile.
- Adjust fin positioning so that the internal electromechanical limit switches actuate smoothly prior to the gate contacting the physical mechanical stops.
- Fasten all securing hardware tightly to ensure the fins maintain calibrated positioning during high-speed gate travel of up to 10.5 meters per minute.
Electrical Integration & Terminal Wiring
The BK-1800 operates as a Class I electrical apparatus requiring a dedicated single-phase mains supply of 230 V AC at 50/60 Hz. The electrical supply line must safely accommodate the motor's 4.2 A current absorption and 480 W rated power draw, integrated with the 31.5 µF operating capacitor. An internal thermal protection sensor isolates power if internal motor temperatures reach 150 °C.
The on-board control board features terminal blocks, quick-blow protection fuses, and an integrated configuration display:
- Safety Accessories: The terminal block provides a 24 V AC auxiliary output rated at up to 20 W to power active photocells, access keypads, and control hardware.
- Safety Edge Inputs: The board natively interfaces with 8k2Ω resistive safety edges to monitor pinch zones.
- Flashing Beacon: Connect visual signaling devices to the dedicated flasher terminal, rated for 230 V AC up to 25 W maximum.
- Transmitter Memory: The internal memory stores up to 250 discrete transmitter users for access authorization.
Manual Release Commissioning
Prior to applying mains power, technicians must verify manual operation. Access the internal release mechanism behind the locked hatch on the front housing of the motor using the triangular release key. Turn the release lever to disengage the irreversible gear motor, and glide the gate leaf manually across the entire travel span to confirm smooth rolling resistance without friction points or structural binding before relocking the transmission.
