Mechanical Preparation and Enclosure Mounting
The Biomax SA42 standalone access control reader features a compact footprint measuring 75 mm (L) x 113 mm (H) x 15 mm (W) with a weight of 0.15 kg. Installation requires preparing a flat surface suited to its slim 15 mm profile. Drill mounting pilot holes into the wall or electrical mounting surface aligned precisely with the screw hole template on the detachable rear mounting shell.
Drill an aperture behind the unit to pass the integrated multi-core wiring harness safely into the junction box or wall cavity. Affix the rear shell firmly using the supplied mounting screws. Route the cable harness through the central aperture of the back shell, complete all wire terminations, and then seat the front terminal housing onto the secured back shell.
Wiring Harness Lead Definitions
The device is supplied with a color-coded wiring pigtail. Ensure power is completely disconnected before making terminations. Unused bare conductors must be individually wrapped with electrical insulation tape or heat-shrink tubing to prevent accidental short circuits against ground or neighboring lines.
| Wire Color | Designation | Functional Description |
|---|---|---|
| Red | +12V DC | Regulated power supply positive input (DC 12V ±10%) |
| Black | GND | Regulated power supply ground / common negative |
| Purple | COM | Internal door relay common contact terminal |
| Blue | NO | Normally Open relay terminal (switched load ≤ 1 A) |
| Orange | NC | Normally Closed relay terminal (switched load ≤ 1 A) |
| Yellow | OPEN | Push-to-exit switch contact input |
| Green | D0 | Wiegand Data 0 communication line (WG26 / WG34) |
| White | D1 | Wiegand Data 1 communication line (WG26 / WG34) |
| Pink | BELL_A | Dedicated dry contact output to external door chime / bell |
| Pink | BELL_B | Dedicated dry contact output to external door chime / bell |
Electrical Connections and Lock Relay Interfacing
Supply the Biomax SA42 with a stable DC 12V (±10%) linear or switching power source. The terminal draws an idle standby current of ≤ 30 mA. The onboard lock output switching contact is rated up to 1 A, while the alarm circuit load handles up to 2 A. Internal protection circuitry provides short-circuit response within ≤ 100 µs.
- Electromagnetic Lock (Fail-Safe): Connect the lock power feed through the Orange (NC) and Purple (COM) relay contacts. When access is granted, the circuit opens to release the lock.
- Electric Strike Lock (Fail-Secure): Connect through the Blue (NO) and Purple (COM) relay contacts. The relay energizes the circuit to release the strike upon authorized entry.
- Exit Button Integration: Connect a momentary, normally-open push button across the Yellow (OPEN) line and Black (GND).
- External Bell Integration: Terminate external chime signal circuits across the two Pink wires (BELL_A and BELL_B).
Wiegand Controller Integration and Initial Commissioning
When deploying the SA42 as a slave card reader for an external access controller, terminate Green (D0), White (D1), and Black (GND) directly to the corresponding Wiegand inputs of the host panel. The device supports selectable Wiegand 26-bit or Wiegand 34-bit data formatting.
Following wiring verification, apply 12V DC power. The terminal's backlight touch keypad illuminates for verification. Enter the programming interface by keying in the default factory master code: 888888. Successful entry into programming mode is indicated by a slow flashing red LED accompanied by a single audio beep. Set the door opening delay time between 0 and 99 seconds (default is 5 seconds) to match site egress requirements. Test proximity card reading at a distance of 2 to 5 cm; authorized presentation triggers access in less than 0.1 seconds, whereas programming syntax errors or invalid credential attempts produce three consecutive audible beeps.
