Biomax SA42 System Compatibility and Hardware Integration

Lock Actuator and Release Hardware Compatibility

The Biomax SA42 standalone access control terminal integrates directly with electronic locking hardware via its onboard relay contact interface. The terminal features a lock output switching capacity rated up to 1 A, equipped with short-circuit protection that responds in 100 µs or less. Relay contacts are routed through dedicated harness leads: Purple for Common (COM), Orange for Normally Closed (NC), and Blue for Normally Open (NO). Door open delay timing is configurable from 0 to 99 seconds, with a factory default of 5 seconds.

  • Fail-Safe Locking Mechanisms: Fully compatible with 12V DC magnetic locks (EM locks) and fail-safe electric drop bolts requiring power cut-off for unlocking, wired across the NC (Orange) and COM (Purple) leads within the 1 A switching limit.
  • Fail-Secure Locking Mechanisms: Integrates directly with 12V DC electric strike locks and fail-secure latches requiring power application to release, wired across the NO (Blue) and COM (Purple) leads within the 1 A switching limit.
  • Auxiliary Alarms: Features an onboard alarm output contact rated up to 2 A to drive compatible external security annunciators, sirens, or local alarm indicators.

Wiegand Interface and Controller Interoperability

The SA42 provides bidirectional communication support across industry-standard Wiegand 26-bit (WG26) and Wiegand 34-bit (WG34) protocols. The system is designed to operate in dual functional roles within facility access infrastructure using dedicated Green (D0) and White (D1) transmission lines.

  • Standalone Controller Mode (Wiegand Input): Accepts credential transmissions from downstream slave card readers utilizing standard Wiegand 26-bit or 34-bit data output, enabling two-way or inside/outside credential management on a single door.
  • Sub-Reader Mode (Wiegand Output): Functions as an external card and PIN verification peripheral transmitting credential data directly to third-party networked multi-door access controllers, master panels, or building management systems supporting WG26 or WG34 input.

Credential and Proximity Card Specifications

The embedded radio-frequency receiver in the Biomax SA42 is engineered specifically for standard 125 kHz Proximity EM card formats. It provides read performance within a transmission range of 2 cm to 5 cm. Verification processing completes with a credential search and response time of less than 0.1 seconds from card presentation. The internal non-volatile memory structure accommodates up to 2,000 individual user records combining card credentials and PIN passwords.

Auxiliary Peripherals and Power Infrastructure

Integration with surrounding door accessories and local power grids is governed by standardized low-voltage terminal leads on the rear wiring harness:

  • Request-to-Exit (RTE) Hardware: Integrates directly with mechanical push-to-exit buttons, exit sensors, or gate release triggers via the dedicated Yellow (OPEN) dry-contact terminal referenced to power ground (GND).
  • Audible Annunciation: Equipped with two dedicated Pink wire leads designated as Bell_A and Bell_B. These provide isolated dry contacts to trigger conventional external wired door chime systems directly from the terminal touch surface.
  • Power Supply Requirements: Requires a regulated DC 12V (±10%) operating power source connected via the Red (+12V) and Black (GND) leads. The terminal maintains an idle standby current draw of 30 mA or less, allowing seamless deployment alongside standard industrial access control power supplies and backup units.
