How an air curtain saves energy
Through an open doorway, warm outside air pushes in while cool inside air escapes, and the AC runs harder to compensate. A correctly sized air curtain blocks much of this exchange, so the AC cycles less and the space stays cooler near the entrance. The saving depends on the door size, the temperature difference, wind and how long the door is open, but for shops, restaurants and showrooms with doors open all day it is usually noticeable on the power bill. How to install and use an air curtain

1. Mount it on the inside, directly above the door, as close to the top of the opening as possible.
2. Cover the full width so there are no gaps at the sides where air can sneak through.
3. Angle the louvres slightly outwards (typically 5 to 15 degrees) so the air sheet meets the floor just outside the threshold.
4. Use a dedicated power point with proper earthing; three-phase models need a three-phase supply.
5. Add automatic control: a door sensor, a sensor with controller or a magnetic door switch switches the air curtain on only when the door opens, which saves even more power.
6. Clean the intake grille and blower monthly in dusty areas so airflow stays strong.

Air curtain or PVC strip curtain?
Use an air curtain where customers walk in and the entrance must look open and clean. Use a PVC strip curtain on cold rooms, internal factory doors and loading docks where a physical barrier is acceptable, and the anti-insect yellow strip where flying insects are a problem.
