Physical Mounting & Site Preparation
The ZKTeco KR500 E (KR500-E) is engineered with a compact, textured ABS+PC (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene + Polycarbonate) enclosure measuring 78 mm in height, 44 mm in width, and 16 mm in depth (7.8 cm x 4.4 cm x 1.6 cm) with a bare unit weight of 50 g. Its slim profile allows direct installation on standard door frames, mullions, or architectural entry surfaces in commercial and industrial access control deployments.
Rated with an IP65 index of protection, the reader is sealed against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, qualifying it for both indoor and exposed outdoor mounting locations. When planning installation sites, verify that the ambient operational temperature remains within the rated range of -20°C to +65°C (-10°C to +70°C) and relative humidity stays between 10% and 90% non-condensing.
Power Supply Requirements
The KR500 E operates across a direct current voltage input range of DC 6V to 14V, drawing a maximum operating current of 70 mA. Power can be supplied directly from the auxiliary DC power output terminals of a host access control panel, a multi-door controller, or an external regulated DC power distribution unit.
Wiegand Data & Control Wiring
The device functions as an external slave proximity reader utilizing an industry-standard 26-bit Wiegand communication protocol as its default data output interface. Connect the reader to host controllers and standalone attendance terminals supporting 26-bit Wiegand input formats.
The unit features 2 dedicated external input control ports for bidirectional feedback management:
- External LED Control Line: Triggers switching between the dual-color Red and Green status LEDs to provide visual access-granted and access-denied indications based on controller logic.
- External Buzzer Control Line: Drives the integrated internal audible beeper to signal card acceptance, operational errors, or controller-driven alarm alerts.

Post-Installation Testing & Commissioning
After completing all physical mounting and wiring terminations, power the access control subsystem. Present standard 125KHz EM / Proximity RFID cards or key fobs within the 10 cm read range. Confirm that the card data is transmitted over the 26-bit Wiegand line with a card reading response time of ≤ 200 ms, and verify that the host controller successfully controls the integrated Red and Green LEDs along with the audible beeper.
