FaceDepot-8AL Physical Mounting, Electrical Wiring, and System Integration Guide

The ZKTeco FaceDepot-8AL is an 8-inch visible light facial and RFID recognition terminal engineered for flexible deployment across indoor and outdoor security checkpoints. Successful field implementation requires adherence to electrical supply limits, environmental planning, access control input/output (I/O) wiring, and communication bus configuration.

Mechanical Mounting and Environmental Placement

The FaceDepot-8AL terminal features a compact enclosure measuring 227 mm in length, 143 mm in width, and 26 mm in depth (227 x 143 x 26 mm). It is built to IP68 ingress protection standards for dust tightness and water immersion resistance, alongside an IK04 mechanical impact resistance rating. These structural specifications allow direct mounting onto exterior perimeter gates, outdoor barriers, pedestrian turnstile top-plates, and external building walls.

The unit operates reliably across ambient temperatures from -30°C to +60°C with relative humidity levels up to ≤93% (non-condensing). For long-term storage prior to site commissioning, maintain environmental parameters between -40°C and +65°C at ≤93% humidity.

Optical Field of View and Approach Detection

Field commissioning should leverage the terminal's integrated optical and detection components:

  • Microwave Approach Detection: The onboard microwave sensor detects approaching individuals up to 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) away, automatically waking the terminal from low-power state to initiate biometric recognition.
  • Lighting Conditions: The 2MP starlight CMOS camera features Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), allowing accurate operation in illumination levels ranging from 0.5 lux in low-light environments up to 50,000 lux in direct sunlight.
  • Display Alignment: The terminal is equipped with an 8-inch high-brightness IPS touch screen (400 lux), ensuring clear on-screen prompts and verification visibility in outdoor daylight.

Power Supply Requirements

The FaceDepot-8AL requires a dedicated regulated 12V DC power source. Ensure the external power supply unit provides stable direct current with an available capacity exceeding the terminal's peak current draw of

Access Control I/O Terminal Wiring

The integrated terminal interface board includes dedicated dry-contact and signaling terminals to interface directly with door hardware and alarm peripherals:

  • Lock Relay Output: Configurable relay interface for direct connection to electric strikes, magnetic locks, or automatic gate controllers.
  • Door Sensor Input: Connects to magnetic door position switches to monitor door status and trigger unauthorized breach signals.
  • Exit Button: Dedicated input terminals for push-to-exit buttons and manual request-to-exit (REX) devices.
  • Alarm Output: Connects to external sounders, strobes, or building management panels for tamper and security event notification.
  • Auxiliary Input: Interface for external sensor triggers, smoke detector relays, or third-party auxiliary triggers.

Communication, Slave Readers, and Network Integration

To support multi-factor security topologies and physical access controllers, the FaceDepot-8AL integrates versatile communication protocols:

  • Wiegand Interface: Bi-directional communication for legacy access controller integration or external credential reader connectivity.
  • RS485 and RS232 Ports: Interfaces for external slave readers supporting fingerprint, RFID card, barcode, and QR-code scanning formats.
  • Security Relay Box: Native connectivity to external security relay modules for enhanced anti-tamper door control separation.
  • Software Management: Network connection delivers seamless communication with the ZKBioSecurity management software platform for centralized database sync and event log aggregation.
