Installation, Plumbing Connections, and Mechanical Mounting

Proper installation of the Udyogi 6250 SS (SSSU-2011) floor-mounted combination emergency safety shower and eyewash fountain ensures compliant, instantaneous decontamination across chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical facilities, battery charging areas, and industrial laboratories. Mechanical erection and plumbing integration must conform strictly to IS 10592:2018 and ANSI Z358.1 engineering guidelines.

Base Flange Foundation & Floor Anchoring

The unit features a rigid Grade 304 stainless steel base plate designed for secure floor anchoring onto a level, structurally reinforced concrete pad. Accurate alignment guarantees structural stability and positions the overhead deluge shower head within the standardized clearance height of 2100 mm to 2400 mm above the finished floor surface.

  • Base Plate Diameter: 180 ± 5 mm circular flange
  • Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD): 150 ± 2 mm
  • Anchor Bolt Holes: 4 holes measuring 13 ± 2 mm diameter
  • Fasteners Required: Four 12 mm or 1/2-inch corrosion-resistant anchor studs or expansion bolts (secured to a level concrete substrate)
  • Clearance Footprint: Maintain unobstructed floor access around the 260 ± 5 mm diameter receptor bowl and overhead deluge perimeter

Plumbing Integration: Inlet Supply & Waste Drainage

The unit connects to an uninterrupted, dedicated potable water supply line capable of delivering sustained hydraulic volume without sudden pressure drops during concurrent facility operations. Both the supply feed and waste run utilize standard industrial threading compatible with plant utility networks or dedicated gravity-fed loops.

  • Inlet Connection Size: 1-1/4 inch NB (Nominal Bore) / BSP female threaded connection
  • Drain/Outlet Connection Size: 1-1/4 inch NB (Nominal Bore) / BSP discharge piping
  • Shower Flow Requirement: Continuous minimum delivery of 76 LPM (litres per minute) to the drench head
  • Eyewash Flow Requirement: Continuous minimum delivery of 12 LPM (litres per minute) to the twin atomizers
  • Supply Quality: Potable water line flushed thoroughly before final hookup to eliminate pipe scale, weld spatter, or debris that could foul internal aerator filters

Actuator Linkages: Dual Hand and Foot Activation

The 6250 SS incorporates independent SS 304 stay-open through-passage operating ball valves that remain fully open until manually reset by facility personnel. During installation, verify free mechanical movement across all mechanical linkages:

  • Overhead Drench Shower: Connect and suspend the rigid SS 304 pull rod to the top ball valve operating lever, verifying that vertical downward travel fully engages the valve open position.
  • Eyewash Push Plate: Check the mechanical throw of the hand-operated push plate to confirm smooth rotation into the detented stay-open position.
  • Foot Pedal Mechanism: Verify that the base-mounted stainless steel foot pedal linkage couples directly to the eyewash push plate assembly, providing immediate hands-free flow control upon downward foot pressure.

Pre-Commissioning Flushing & Hydraulic Verification

Before operational turnover, execute a multi-point hydraulic commissioning sequence to validate IS 10592:2018 performance parameters:

  • Open the main isolation supply valve and purge the lines through both activation mechanisms.
  • Actuate the pull rod to verify that the overhead shower head maintains an uninterrupted deluge volume of at least 76 LPM.
  • Depress the push plate or foot pedal to inspect the eyewash stream: ensure water pressure automatically lifts the pop-off dust covers off the twin soft-flow foam-generating atomizers.
  • Inspect the aerator filters to confirm straight, balanced streams with minimal splashing across the 260 mm diameter receptor bowl at a minimum rate of 12 LPM.
  • Check all 1-1/4 inch NB threaded joints and SS 304 pipe unions for zero leakage under full line pressure.
