FAAC C851 System Compatibility, Gate Specifications, and Mechanical Interfaces

Gate Architecture and Dimensional Capacities

The FAAC C851 sliding gate operator (part number 109903) is engineered to automate heavy commercial and industrial sliding gates. It supports single-leaf sliding cantilever, tracked sliding, and telescopic sliding gate configurations. The drive system accommodates gate leaves weighing up to 1,800 kg with maximum clear opening widths reaching 20 m. Rated for continuous duty (100% use frequency at 25 °C), the drive mechanics support high-throughput perimeter installations across logistics warehouses, commercial distribution centres, retail malls, embassies, and correctional facilities.

Mechanical Rack and Pinion Compatibility

Rotational torque from the internal worm screw mechanism—running in continuous oil lubrication—is transferred to the gate structure via a pre-fitted Z28 drive pinion. This drive pinion is cut to standard Module 4 tooth geometry. Any gate leaf paired with the C851 must be fitted with a corresponding Module 4 pitch drive rack aligned along its lower structural rail. The unit delivers a maximum thrust force of 3,000 N and up to 168 Nm of peak torque, ensuring dependable meshing with compatible steel Module 4 racks during high-speed travel between 20 and 40 m/min (up to 0.7 m/s).

Electrical and Control Unit Integration

The operator interfaces directly with standard 220–240 V AC single-phase mains supplies at 50/60 Hz, drawing a maximum absorbed power of 1,800 W. Internal power electronics route incoming mains power through an integrated FAAC E850S control unit. The E850S features an onboard frequency inverter that supplies and regulates the internal 1.1 kW four-pole three-phase electric motor. This architecture allows engineering personnel to program opening and closing operational speeds independently through the integrated display and pushbuttons, which are enclosed beneath dark and transparent service covers.

Position Sensing and Deceleration Limit Interfaces

Precision gate tracking and stopping performance are managed by a dual-stage position sensing interface. For end-of-travel detection, the C851 interfaces with two external magnetic limit switches mounted directly onto a stainless steel plate positioned along the gate rack. For deceleration staging, the operator incorporates two internal mechanical limit switches equipped with fine-adjustment screws, allowing precise calibration of the slow-down zones before the gate reaches complete open or closed positions. Holding and irreversibility are enforced by an integrated electric brake located on the motor shaft, which prevents back-driving unless disengaged via the external manual release mechanism.

Mounting Base and Foundation Interfaces

Physical integration to concrete ground pads is handled by a heavy-duty galvanised steel operator base plate featuring 5 secure fixing points. The base provides integrated slot holes and dedicated height adjustment pins, facilitating precise horizontal alignment and vertical pitch leveling relative to the gate rack. The mechanical layout occupies a footprint of 510 mm in length, 295 mm in depth, and 467 mm in overall height, housed beneath a 1.5 mm protective steel cover pre-treated with zinc primer and finished with powder coating.
