Prolite LED Emergency Exit Light Installation & Commissioning Guide

Pre-Installation Environmental & Site Assessment

The Prolite LED Emergency Exit Light is engineered for indoor, dry architectural deployments and carries an IP20 ingress protection rating in conformance with IS 10322 standards. Because the IP20 enclosure provides protection against solid objects greater than 12.5 mm but contains no sealing against water penetration, installers must verify that the chosen mounting location is completely protected from water ingress, plumbing leaks, dripping condensation, external weather exposure, or high-humidity washdown routines. Approved deployment zones include hotel corridors, staircases, underground parking structures, commercial office spaces, and domestic premises requiring clearly illuminated informational and life-safety directional guidance.

Before mounting the luminaire, verify that the local mains power infrastructure conforms to the operational parameters of the fixture. The system requires a nominal single-phase utility supply of ~230 V AC at 50 Hz with an acceptable voltage fluctuation tolerance band of ±10%. Ensure that the primary electrical circuit is de-energized, locked out, and tagged out in compliance with facility safety protocols before exposing internal electrical conductors or initiating any wiring actions.

Mechanical Mounting (Wall and Ceiling Configurations)

The luminaire features a rigid, lightweight structural profile fabricated from uniformly extruded aluminum alloy coated in a durable white epoxy polyester powder finish, with an overall unit weight under 1 kg. It accommodates surface mounting onto vertical walls or horizontal ceiling slabs through two integrated rear keyholes. The physical envelope measures 300 mm in width, 180 mm in total height, and 25 mm in depth, with a 55 mm upper housing section (all physical dimensions maintain a manufacturing tolerance of ±5 mm). The message panel comprises a CAD-designed graphic printed directly on a 6 mm clear acrylic sheet.

To execute the mechanical installation:

  • Mark the mounting surface using the two integrated keyholes located on the extruded aluminum chassis to establish center-to-center hole alignment.
  • Drill pilot holes into the wall or ceiling substrate and seat wall plugs or anchors capable of securing a luminaire weight of below 1 kg.
  • Drive appropriate mounting screws into the anchors, leaving screw heads projecting slightly to engage the keyholes.
  • Position the fixture over the screw heads, insert them through the wider section of the keyholes, and firmly slide the chassis into the narrow slots to lock the luminaire against the mounting surface.
  • Check that the fixture is horizontally level and that the 6 mm clear acrylic display panel remains unobstructed and readily visible along egress corridors or exit routes.

Electrical Mains Wiring & Terminal Interface

Electrical power connects directly to the internal printed circuit board assembly via an electrical-grade, PCB-mount mains connector rated at 5 A and 250 V. Route the incoming AC supply conductors through the luminaire housing to reach the terminal block. Strip the insulation on the supply conductors to the length recommended for PCB-mounted terminals and terminate the line, neutral, and earth leads securely into the corresponding positions of the 5 A, 250 V connector. Ensure all conductor strands are fully enclosed inside the terminal clamping area to prevent short circuits or contact with the extruded aluminum housing.

System Commissioning & Operational Validation

The fixture operates as a Maintained emergency luminaire. Under normal power conditions, utility AC drives the internal array of multiple LEDs (sourced from manufacturers including GMR Light, Bridgelux, Edison, or Osram) to provide uninterrupted message illumination, while an internal constant current charger provides steady charging to the onboard Lithium-ion rechargeable battery (they are not included).

Complete the commissioning process with the following sequence:

  • Initial Charge Cycle: Energize the ~230 V AC mains supply. The LED array will illuminate immediately. Maintain continuous unswitched utility power for a mandatory initial charging cycle of 16 to 24 hours to bring the Lithium-ion rechargeable battery (they are not included) to full operational reserve.
  • Changeover Functional Test: Following the 16 to 24-hour recharging period, simulate a utility power disruption by de-energizing the dedicated branch circuit breaker. Verify that the automatic changeover circuit immediately shifts power delivery to the internal Lithium-ion rechargeable battery (they are not included), maintaining illumination without outage.
  • Discharge Duration Verification: Confirm that the battery (they are not included) system maintains the required 180 minutes (±10%) emergency backup duration under complete mains isolation.
  • Mains Resumption Test: Re-energize the AC power supply. Confirm that the LED array automatically switches back to primary utility power while the constant current charger simultaneously resumes recharging the Lithium-ion rechargeable battery (they are not included).
