Ahuja SSA-160EM Installation and Setup Guidelines

Physical Placement and Mounting Requirements

The Ahuja SSA-160EM mixer amplifier measures 420 mm in width, 155 mm in height, and 320 mm in depth, with a total net weight of 13.6 kg. When integrating the amplifier into an equipment rack shelf, table console, or industrial control desk, ensure the mounting surface is rated to support the 13.6 kg load. Maintain adequate clearance around the enclosure chassis to allow unrestricted airflow across internal heat-dissipating assemblies.

AC Mains and 24V DC Battery Backup Wiring

The unit incorporates a dual-mode power supply designed for continuous operation across commercial and industrial facilities. For standard operation, connect the unit to an AC supply of 220–240V at 50/60Hz, accommodating an AC power consumption rating of 300VA.

For emergency backup or uninterrupted public address deployment, connect a 24V DC supply using two 12V car battery (they are not included) units wired in series. The amplifier draws up to 4A on DC operation. The system features an automatic changeover mechanism that executes an instant transfer to the 24V DC battery (they are not included) power supply without audio interruption if the AC mains supply fails.

Speaker Impedance and Distributed Line Matching

The SSA-160EM features dedicated output terminals for both low-impedance speaker setups and constant-voltage distributed speaker networks. The internal amplifier design delivers an output regulation of ≤ 2 dB from no load to full load at 1kHz, rated at 160W RMS (10% THD), 140W RMS (5% THD), and 120W RMS (2% THD), with a maximum output capability of 220W.

  • Low-Impedance Direct Connection: Use the 4Ω or 8Ω taps for direct speaker wiring when connecting low-impedance speaker enclosures near the amplifier. Ensure total load impedance matches the selected tap.
  • High-Voltage Line Distribution: Use the 70V or 100V line terminals for distributed multi-speaker systems over extended cabling runs. Ensure all connected line-matching transformer secondary taps sum up to a wattage load within the amplifier's continuous RMS rating.

Box Speaker / Driver Unit Selector Configuration

Before commissioning speaker loads, configure the rear/front panel Box Speaker / Driver Unit selector switch based on the connected acoustic transducers:

  • Box Speaker Position: Enables standard frequency response (50Hz to 15,000Hz ±3dB) with active tone control equalization (Bass: ±10dB at 100Hz, Treble: ±10dB at 10kHz) for full-range wooden or column speakers.
  • Driver Unit Position: Automatically defeats bass boost to protect horn driver units and diaphragms from mechanical and thermal damage caused by low-frequency signals.

Audio Input, Booster Output, and Line Routing

Wire signal sources according to channel input electrical specifications:

  • Microphone Inputs: Connect up to 5 low-impedance dynamic microphones across the 5 × Mic inputs (0.65mV / 4.7kΩ).
  • Auxiliary Inputs: Connect background music players or auxiliary sources to the 2 × Aux inputs (100mV / 470kΩ).
  • Line Input: Connect an external mixing console or audio DSP output into the 1 × Line input (1V / 50kΩ) when operating the SSA-160EM as a dedicated Booster Power Amplifier.
  • Preamp and Line Outputs: Route the Preamp output (200mV / 600Ω) or Line output (1V / 1kΩ) to external recording hardware or slave booster amplifiers for multi-zone system expansion.

Overload Protection and Circuit Breaker Reset

The amplifier includes a built-in resettable circuit breaker that protects internal components against short circuits across speaker output terminals and operational overloads. If a line fault or overload trips the breaker, power down the system, rectify the output cabling fault or reduce speaker load, and press the resettable circuit breaker button to restore normal operation.
