Battery Chamber Configuration (Internal 12V DC Power)
The Ahuja AM-22HSD operates portably via an internal battery compartment configured for 10 × AA (UM-3) dry cells. To install internal batteries, release the rear compartment latch on the all-ABS resin body to access the multi-cell battery holder. Insert 10 standard 1.5V AA (UM-3) alkaline or heavy-duty cells into the sled, verifying that the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals strictly align with the internal polarity markings.
Improper cell orientation will prevent power delivery to the internal Class-D amplifier module. Once all 10 cells are properly seated against the spring contacts, insert the loaded holder back into the megaphone housing and firmly latch the access cover to maintain a secure electrical connection during transport and field operation.
External 12V DC Power Interface
For stationary announcements, long-duration operational shifts, or vehicle-mounted emergency deployment, the AM-22HSD can be powered continuously from an external DC source rather than internal dry cells. Compatible external sources include standard 12V vehicle electrical systems, 12V–14V car batteries, or auxiliary 11.1V lithium-ion battery packs.
- Locate the dedicated DC input jack positioned on the megaphone body.
- Connect the external 12V DC power lead to the power socket, ensuring positive/negative polarity matching to prevent input faults.
- When running on an external 12V car battery lead, internal AA cells do not need to be loaded, reducing the active carrying weight of the 1.85 kg unit.
- Ensure the DC power plug is firmly seated in the socket to avoid intermittent power interruptions in high-vibration vehicle or industrial environments.
Shoulder Sling and Hand Grip Mounting
The megaphone supports two primary physical deployment configurations: direct handheld operation via the integrated ergonomic hand grip, or mobile shoulder-slung operation for extended crowd control and public address tasks.
- Shoulder Sling Assembly: Secure the heavy-duty shoulder sling strap directly to the integrated metal eyelet brackets located on the top chassis of the ABS housing. Adjust the strap length to suspend the unit comfortably at waist or hip level.
- Handheld Deployment: For single-handed point-and-talk operation, dock the detachable unidirectional microphone securely into the dedicated rear bracket of the housing. This aligns the controls so the operator can activate voice transmission via the secondary switch integrated directly into the hand grip.
- Detached Handheld Microphone Mode: When carrying the megaphone via the shoulder sling, detach the 600-ohm unidirectional microphone from the rear docking bracket to operate the primary Press-to-Talk (PTT) switch and rotary volume control freely in hand.
System Commissioning, Acoustic Alignment, and Siren Operation
Prior to deploying the AM-22HSD across industrial sites, fire safety evacuation drills, or traffic management zones, perform a basic acoustic check. Position the rotary volume dial on the microphone body at a low setting before depressing the PTT switch. Gradually advance the volume control to the required level to achieve clear projection across the target voice range (approx. 400 m).
To prevent acoustic feedback squeal or howling during speech transmission, always ensure the unidirectional microphone head is positioned behind the plane of the Ø220 mm horn flare and pointed away from the acoustic opening. To activate the built-in emergency siren (500 m range rating), engage the dedicated siren switch on the unit to immediately generate the high-intensity acoustic warning signal.
