Industrial and Traffic Management Use Cases for TruSpeed DC

Targeted Multi-Lane Highway Speed Enforcement

The Laser Technology TruSpeed DC is engineered for high-density roadway corridors where conventional radar struggles with beam divergence. Utilizing pinpoint lidar beam geometry, the TruSpeed DC allows operators to isolate and measure individual target vehicles across adjacent lanes without target-bleed or multi-path interference. Operating within a speed measurement range of ± 320 km/h and maintaining a certified speed accuracy of ± 2 km/h, the instrument enables precise speed enforcement on high-velocity expressways, interchange ramps, and arterial routes.

With a baseline targeting range of 610 m—expandable to 915 m via an optional factory range upgrade—operators can identify non-compliant vehicles well before the instrument enters the driver's standard line of sight. Targeting precision is reinforced by a range accuracy of ± 15 cm, an adjustable-brightness heads-up display (HUD), and an LCD screen backlight that ensures target crosshair visibility under direct solar glare or low-light twilight conditions.

All-Weather Field Operations and Adverse Climate Deployment

Field enforcement frequently demands deployment across severe meteorological conditions. The TruSpeed DC incorporates a dedicated one-button Weather Mode engineered to overcome backscatter caused by environmental precipitation, road spray, or fog. This mode applies a specialized range gate that filters out false close-range laser returns, allowing speed verification to proceed uninterrupted during adverse weather conditions.

Constructed with a rugged composite polycarbonate outer shell and a rigid internal aluminum chassis, the TruSpeed DC complies with NEMA 4 and IP55 water-resistance standards. The hardware functions reliably across a wide operating temperature envelope of -30° C to 60° C. Powered by two alkaline or NiCad rechargeable C-cell batteries (they are not included) delivering up to 25 hours of continuous cordless runtime, the system provides reliable multi-shift operational readiness in unpowered field positions.

Statistical Traffic Audits, Speed Studies, and Fleet Compliance

Beyond active roadside enforcement, the TruSpeed DC serves as a high-capacity data collection instrument for civil transport engineers, industrial site safety officers, and private logistics facility managers monitoring speed compliance on internal haul roads. The unit features non-volatile onboard data storage capable of archiving up to 6,000 individual speed measurement records directly on the device.

Measurement records are synchronized by an internal real-time clock maintaining a clock accuracy of 20 parts per million (ppm) across the entire -30° C to +60° C temperature span (±10 minutes per year drift). Archived records can be offloaded directly to a PC utilizing TruLogger post-processing software for analytical tabulation, speed distribution profile modeling, and compliance reporting. Operators can toggle between functional modes including Speed Mode, Continuous Mode, and Test Mode to suit static or ongoing monitoring studies.

Tactical Deployment and Ergonomic Long-Duration Operation

Weighing 1 kg with physical dimensions of 20 cm x 8 cm x 30 cm, the unit is configured for ergonomic handheld targeting via an intuitive icon keypad. For prolonged checkpoint surveillance or high-magnification targeting, field teams can augment the standard unit with modular mechanical accessories:

  • Removable Shoulder Stock: Attaches directly to the instrument frame to optimize aiming stability during high-distance vehicle tracking.
  • 3.5X Magnified Sighting Scope: Mounts to provide optical target acquisition when tracking vehicles approaching the maximum 915 m range threshold.
  • Custom Foam Carrying Case: Protects optical lenses and the composite chassis during transport between monitoring locations.
  • Anti-Jam Firmware: Optional upgrade designed to detect and counter electronic laser countermeasure systems.
