Hardware, Software, and System Compatibility

The Laser Technology TruSpeed DC handheld lidar speed measurement system is engineered for direct compatibility with specialized processing software, optical and mechanical aiming hardware, standardized power sources, and factory performance upgrades. Designed as part of the LTI 20/20 TruSpeed family, the instrument integrates seamlessly into professional traffic law enforcement, vehicle isolation monitoring, and statistical speed audit compliance programs.

Software and Data Archiving Compatibility

The TruSpeed DC is equipped with internal non-volatile memory capable of logging up to 6,000 complete speed measurement records directly on the unit. For digital management, verification, and evidentiary audit trials, the device is fully compatible with proprietary TruLogger post-processing software. Connecting the instrument to a PC running TruLogger allows enforcement teams and site safety engineers to offload, archive, and analyze logged traffic data.

Data logged by the system integrates with an onboard real-time clock rated to maintain an accuracy of 20 parts per million (ppm) across the entire operating temperature range of -30° C to 60° C (equating to a maximum timing deviation of ±10 minutes per year). This temporal precision ensures that every data point transferred into TruLogger reflects exact timestamp indexing for compliance tracking.

Optical and Mechanical Accessory Integration

Constructed with an internal aluminum chassis and a composite polycarbonate outer shell measuring 20 cm x 8 cm x 30 cm with a total physical weight of 1 kg, the TruSpeed DC housing features modular interfaces for several dedicated Laser Technology field accessories:

  • 3.5X Magnified Sighting Scope: Mounts to complement the unit's adjustable-brightness heads-up display (HUD), enhancing vehicle targeting and plate isolation across multi-lane traffic at extended distances.
  • Removable Shoulder Stock: Connects to the base assembly to enhance mechanical stability during protracted monitoring sessions, minimizing operator fatigue and hand movement.
  • Carrying Case with Custom Foam: Designed with precision foam cutouts sized specifically for the 20 cm x 8 cm x 30 cm device, spare optical accessories, and backup battery sets.

Power Interface Compatibility

The internal power circuit of the TruSpeed DC is engineered to operate on two alkaline or NiCad rechargeable C-cell batteries (they are not included). This power platform provides up to 25 hours of cordless operation under typical deployment conditions, allowing field officers to utilize standard commercial single-use cells or rechargeable NiCad cell packs interchangeably.

Factory Firmware and Hardware Upgrades

The TruSpeed DC platform supports factory-configured performance upgrades to adapt to demanding enforcement environments:

  • Extended Range Upgrade: Expands the factory standard targeting range of 610 m up to an operational reach of 915 m while preserving target range accuracy of ± 15 cm and speed accuracy of ± 2 km/h across the ± 320 km/h operational span.
  • Anti-Jam Firmware Upgrade: An optional factory-installed firmware protocol configured to defeat active jammer interference and maintain lidar measurement stability.
  • Integrated Operational Modes: The unit's icon keypad and backlit LCD display interface seamlessly with four distinct runtime operational profiles: Speed Mode, Continuous Mode, Test Mode, and a one-button Weather Mode designed to bypass environmental spray and precipitation interference.

Environmental and Regulatory Standard Interoperability

The TruSpeed DC meets strict international safety and environmental standards, ensuring compliance when integrated into regulated municipal, governmental, or industrial transport facilities:

  • Environmental Ingress: Certified to IP55 and NEMA 4 water-resistance standards across operational temperatures from -30° C to 60° C and storage temperatures from -35° C to 70° C.
  • Optical Eye Safety: Complies with Class 1 eye safety guidelines established under US FDA CFR 21 and European standard IEC-60825-1 for unrestricted operational safety in public areas.
