Installation and Wiring Guidelines for Honeywell Intelligent Wall Mount Sounder Strobe

Base Mounting and Mechanical Assembly

The Honeywell intelligent wall-mounted sounder strobe is engineered for efficient job-site deployment using the common B501AP intelligent mounting base. The base includes an integrated wiring continuity spring that enables system commissioning engineers to test and verify loop wiring continuity across field circuits before the sounder strobe head is mechanically inserted and twisted into position. Constructed from UV-stable, impact-resistant materials, the unit features an external diameter of 121 mm, an installed height profile of 64 mm, and a lightweight mass of 238 g, ensuring minimal mechanical load on wall fixtures.

Field Wiring and Electrical Terminations

Loop field conductors connect directly to the terminal points on the base, accepting solid or stranded cabling with cross-sectional areas ranging from 1.5 mm² up to a maximum of 2.5 mm². The unit operates across an addressable signaling loop voltage span of 15 to 29 V DC, with a nominal operating level of 24 V DC. Electrical load calculations across signaling circuits must account for a standby quiescent current draw of 120 µA in non-isolated mode, increasing to 225 µA when integrated short-circuit isolation is active. At full alarm output on 24 V DC (measured at Tone 8, High Volume), the unit generates sound pressure levels reaching up to 97 dB(A) ±3 dB at 1 metre, complemented by a 1 Hz LED strobe pulse.

Address Setting and Loop Commissioning

Device identification is configured manually prior to base insertion using mechanical rotary decade switches located on the rear assembly. This mechanical addressing approach ensures positive, non-volatile address allocation on the analog loop without requiring specialized electronic programming tools. The sounder strobe supports seamless system integration across Honeywell addressable fire alarm control panels, including Notifier and Morley-IAS systems. It provides full backward compatibility across both standard CLIP and Advanced Protocols, and features automatic synchronization of both acoustic tone generation and 1 Hz optical flashes across all synchronized devices on the circuit.

Ingress Protection and Environmental Ratings

Environmental sealing and ingress performance depend directly on the chosen mounting base configuration. The sounder strobe achieves IP21C (or IP24) protection when fitted to standard low-profile bases, IP44 when installed with a dedicated surface mount base, and up to IP65 when installed with a deep waterproof base. The operational temperature range spans from -25°C to +70°C with non-condensing relative humidity resistance of up to 95%, making it suitable for clean commercial interiors as well as demanding industrial plant environments.
