System Integration, Protocol, and Base Compatibility

Fire Alarm Control Panel and Protocol Compatibility

The Honeywell intelligent wall-mounted sounder strobe is engineered for direct integration into analog addressable fire detection loops across Honeywell fire alarm control panels. Operating natively within Honeywell fire ecosystems—including systems utilizing Morley-IAS, Notifier, and System Sensor protocols—the unit offers seamless dual-protocol support. The onboard electronics communicate via standard System Sensor CLIP (Classic Loop Interface Protocol) for legacy panel installations and modern Advanced Protocol configurations for accelerated polling, enhanced diagnostics, and expanded device capacities.

Addressing is configured mechanically using integrated rotary decade switches, allowing commissioning technicians to assign loop addresses directly on the hardware without requiring handheld electronic programming tools. Loop synchronization is handled natively at the protocol level, delivering automatic synchronisation of acoustic sounder tones and the 1 Hz LED strobe flash patterns across all connected notification appliances on the addressable circuit.

Mounting Base Compatibility and Enclosure Options

To streamline installation across diverse architectural and industrial environments, the notification appliance mounts directly onto the standardized Honeywell B501AP intelligent detector base. This shared mounting platform allows fire engineering teams to standardize backbox provisioning and rough-in hardware across both detection and notification devices.

  • B501AP Standard Base: Provides mechanical alignment and incorporates an integrated wiring continuity spring, allowing field technicians to perform full cable continuity testing across the signaling circuit prior to locking the sounder head into place.
  • Low Profile Base Mounting: Achieves an IP21C environmental ingress rating, suitable for dry, indoor commercial and public building spaces.
  • Surface Mount Base Configuration: Elevates the mechanical ingress rating to IP44, providing protection against water splash and particulate ingress in utility rooms, plant areas, or industrial corridors.
  • Deep Waterproof Base Configuration: Upgrades the assembly to IP65 sealing, accommodating washdown zones, humid mechanical spaces, or semi-exposed industrial locations within the rated -25°C to +70°C operating window.

Loop Electrical Parameters and Power Compatibility

The sounder strobe is powered directly from the analog addressable loop line without requiring external auxiliary power supply units (PSUs) or dedicated notification appliance circuits (NACs). System designers and electrical estimators must account for the following loop loading criteria during battery calculation and loop calculation workflows:

Operational ParameterSpecification / Compatibility Rating
Supply Voltage Range15 to 29 V DC (Nominal 24 V DC loop supply)
Quiescent Current (Non-Isolated)120 µA @ 24 V DC
Quiescent Current (Isolated Enabled)225 µA @ 24 V DC
Acoustic Output PeakUp to 97 dB(A) ±3 dB at 1 m (High Volume, Tone 8)
Visual Signaling EngineIntegrated LED Strobe (1 Hz flash rate)
Short-Circuit IsolationIntegrated, compliant with EN 54-17

Field Wiring and Conductor Integration

The device terminals accept solid or stranded copper signaling conductors sized from 1.5 mm² to 2.5 mm² maximum. This broad cross-sectional range ensures compatibility with standard fire-rated 2-core shielded loop cables (such as MICC, FP200, or equivalent fire-resistant twisted pair conductors). The head unit twist-locks smoothly onto the B501AP base assembly, which maintains uninterrupted loop continuity via the base spring mechanism even when the sounder strobe head is detached for commissioning, tone selection (from 32 selectable tones), or volume adjustments (High, Medium, Low).
