Honeywell Morley-IAS 795-072-100 Loop Driver Card Installation & Commissioning Guide

Mechanical Mounting and Motherboard Integration

The Honeywell Morley-IAS 795-072-100 is engineered as a compact plug-in daughterboard module measuring 90 mm x 54 mm x 18 mm (H x W x D) with a net weight of approximately 32 g. It installs directly inside the main control panel enclosure of compatible Honeywell Morley-IAS ZXSe and legacy ZX series fire alarm control panels. Physical attachment is achieved via direct plug-in pin headers that mate securely into dedicated loop driver card expansion slots on the panel motherboard.

Before seating the card, ensure that all mains supply and secondary standby battery (they are not included) power sources to the control panel are completely disconnected. Align the board header pins carefully with the chassis socket to avoid bent pins, applying firm, even pressure until the daughterboard is fully seated against the motherboard interface.

Loop Voltage Jumper Configuration and Power Requirements

Prior to re-energizing the panel cabinet, engineers must inspect and verify the physical loop voltage jumper on the panel/card interface. The jumper must be configured to the designated voltage setting corresponding to the Morley-IAS driver type. Failure to position this jumper correctly before applying primary power or standby battery (they are not included) power can disrupt loop signaling or prevent device discovery.

The card operates at a nominal loop voltage of 24 V DC and exhibits an internal quiescent power consumption of 20 mA (excluding connected field devices). It delivers a nominal continuous drive current of 440 mA with a maximum loop load threshold of 460 mA. When planning the loop load, system integrators must aggregate the active and quiescent consumption of all sensors, modules, and notification appliances to ensure current draw does not exceed 460 mA, which would trigger loop supply fault trips.

Field Loop Wiring, Topologies, and Circuit Limits

The 795-072-100 driver card supports both Class A (closed return loop) and Class B (radial/open spur) circuit topologies. Connected field circuits must adhere to strict transmission parameter limits to ensure uninterrupted communication and signal integrity across all field devices:

  • Maximum Loop Line Resistance: 40 Ohms total circuit resistance.
  • Maximum Loop Capacitance: 0.5 µF total line capacitance.
  • Device Capacity: Up to 99 analogue addressable detector/sensor addresses and 99 monitor/control module addresses (maximum 198 total addressable points per loop).
  • Supported Mixed Topologies: Morley-IAS optical smoke sensors, thermal heat sensors, monitor modules, control modules, fault isolators, and conventional zone interface modules.

Protocol Uniformity and Enclosure Constraints

Panel architecture requires protocol uniformity across each individual control panel enclosure. Multiple sensor communication protocols cannot be operated simultaneously within the same panel chassis; therefore, every loop driver card installed within a specific ZXSe cabinet must communicate using identical field device protocols. Differing protocols are supported across independent panels communicating over a shared multi-panel network.

System Commissioning, AUTOLEARN, and Diagnostics

Once mechanical installation and wiring termination are verified, initial loop commissioning is facilitated using the integrated ZXSe control panel AUTOLEARN routine. This internal supervisory routine scans the detection loop, automatically interrogating, identifying, and cataloging every active sensor, interface module, and peripheral device connected to the 795-072-100 driver.

The module incorporates built-in double address detection circuitry to flag field installation errors where two peripheral devices share an identical rotary or digital address. Environmental operating temperatures for the card must remain within 0°C to +49°C with non-condensing relative humidity between 10% and 93% (subject to the host panel enclosure limit of 0°C to +40°C and 85% RH). When integrated into Morley-IAS ZXSe systems, the installation satisfies design and functional compliance under EN 54-2 and EN 54-4 standards.
