Maintenance, Servicing, and Storage Procedures for Hitune PM-90S

Power Cell Management and Battery Compartment Care

The Hitune PM-90S operates on a 6V DC electrical circuit powered by 4 x UM-1 cells (they are not included) or an auxiliary external vehicle or motor bike battery (they are not included). For reliable field deployment in emergency marshaling and industrial public address environments, regular inspection of the internal battery compartment is essential. Check the spring contacts and terminal plates inside the casing for signs of oxidation, atmospheric tarnishing, or chemical residue.

Whenever the megaphone is scheduled for downtime, placed into emergency standby storage, or not in active rotation, operators must remove all 4 x UM-1 cells (they are not included). Extended storage with internal dry cells (they are not included) installed presents a severe risk of chemical electrolyte leakage, which can pit electrical terminals, degrade internal wiring, and cause premature component failure. If an external 6V DC vehicle battery (they are not included) is utilized via external supply wiring, inspect the cable insulation and push-on connectors regularly for fraying or loose connections.

ABS Housing and Acoustic Horn Maintenance

The PM-90S features an all-ABS polymer body with a 250 mm diameter horn flare and an overall body length of 370 mm. While ABS is selected for structural resilience against field impacts and rough handling, maintaining the physical integrity of the shell ensures long-term acoustic performance. Wipe down the external surfaces with a dry or lightly dampened non-abrasive industrial wipe to remove dust, soot, and airborne particulate accumulation. Never apply hydrocarbon solvents, chlorinated degreasers, or abrasive cleaning compounds to the ABS surface, as these agents can degrade or embrittle the polymer structure.

Regularly inspect the rim of the 250 mm horn flare and the body seams for mechanical stress or cracking resulting from transport shocks. Ensure that foreign matter, moisture, or particulate build-up does not obstruct the throat of the acoustic horn assembly, which could muffle the 16W rated and 20W maximum acoustic output.

Dynamic Microphone and Control Switch Care

Because the PM-90S utilizes a shoulder sling configuration, the unidirectional dynamic microphone is housed in a separate handheld wand connected via a flexible cable. Protect the dynamic microphone element by keeping the capsule grille clean and free from moisture droplets and industrial debris. When testing or operating the unit, always direct the unidirectional dynamic microphone capsule away from the 250 mm horn flare to prevent high-gain acoustic feedback and loud howling oscillations.

Exercise the volume control potentiometer and mechanical switches periodically to prevent contact fouling from dust ingress. Toggle the voice and built-in siren selectors through their full actuation ranges to ensure positive mechanical latching and smooth electrical engagement during urgent field alerts.

Preventive Maintenance and Inspection Schedule

  • Pre-Deployment Check: Confirm that 4 x UM-1 cells (they are not included) are inserted with correct polarity (+/-), verify that the volume control operates smoothly, test voice transmission across baseline distances, and briefly trigger the siren switch.
  • Post-Operation Cleaning: Wipe the ABS horn flare, body, and handheld microphone capsule; disconnect any external 6V vehicle battery leads (they are not included); inspect the shoulder sling harness and attachment clips for mechanical wear.
  • Storage Preparation: Completely extract all dry cells (they are not included) before shelving the 2.2 kg unit in a dry, temperature-regulated industrial storage locker free from direct environmental exposure.
