Installation, Wiring Interfaces, and System Integration

The Hikvision DS-KH2220-S 4-wire analog video intercom indoor station is engineered for surface-mounted deployment in residential villas, standalone homes, private office suites, and multi-floor residential properties. Installation requires structured planning of physical placement, environmental conditions, terminal interface connections, and 4-core cable routing to door stations, analog cameras, and cascaded units.

Physical Dimensions and Environmental Guidelines

The DS-KH2220-S has external dimensions of 195.8 mm × 132.8 mm × 18.39 mm (7.7 inches × 5.2 inches × 0.7 inches). Installers should ensure sufficient wall clearance around the unit to provide easy physical operation of the front-panel controls (Call Accept/Decline key, Unlock key, Live View key, and Image key) and the side-mounted analog volume adjustment wheel.

Operating parameters require an ambient temperature between -10 °C and +55 °C (14 °F to 131 °F) and a relative operating humidity between 10% and 90% (non-condensing). The indoor station must be installed in an environment protected from water exposure, condensation, and direct moisture contact across rear terminal interfaces.

Four-Wire Interface Configuration

The unit incorporates 4 four-wire terminal interfaces on the rear panel. Each 4-wire line interface utilizes a four-core cabling structure dedicated to the following four signaling and power pathways:

  • 1-Channel Video Input: Carries the analog video feed from an outdoor door station or external analog camera to the 7-inch TFT LCD (800 × 480 display resolution).
  • 1-Channel Audio Input/Output: Provides bidirectional audio transmission, interfacing with the indoor unit's built-in omnidirectional microphone and loudspeaker, supported by active noise suppression and echo cancellation.
  • 1-Channel Power Supply: Delivers operational power across interconnected peripheral lines.
  • 1-Channel Grounding: Supplies essential electrical ground and signal reference across the 4-core cable network.

System Topology and Device Connections

In standard system deployments, the DS-KH2220-S serves as the primary master indoor station. It connects via four-core cable directly to a compatible Hikvision 4-wire analog door station, such as the DS-KB2411-IM or DS-KB2412T-IM series.

The indoor station provides remote unlocking command capability over the wiring network to actuate connected electric locks or strike hardware. Additionally, installers can connect external CVBS/analog surveillance cameras directly into available four-wire video input interfaces, enabling live monitoring of secondary entry points or perimeter zones via the front-panel Live View button.

Indoor Station Cascading Deployment

For installations requiring coverage across multiple rooms or multiple floors, the DS-KH2220-S architecture supports cascading up to three indoor stations simultaneously within a single intercom network.

Cascading is achieved by connecting four-core cables from the output terminal interface of the master indoor unit to the input terminal interface of downstream stations (configured in sequence as Indoor Station 1, Indoor Station 2, and Indoor Station 3). Cascaded units share intercom answering capabilities, live view camera monitoring, door unlock controls, and picture capture storage/playback functionality.

Power Supply and Commissioning Verification

The DS-KH2220-S requires an external power supply of 12 VDC, with maximum power consumption rated at ≤5 W. Cable sizing and run lengths must maintain steady 12 VDC delivery at the station terminals during active display, loudspeaker broadcast, and picture storage read/write operations.

Commissioning procedures include:

  • Verifying polarity and conductor assignments across all four-wire terminal blocks prior to applying 12 VDC power.
  • Checking the illumination of the front-panel power supply indicator upon power-up.
  • Testing audio clarity through the built-in microphone and loudspeaker to confirm active noise suppression and echo cancellation.
  • Accessing the Live View function to ensure clean video display from connected door stations and external analog cameras on the 800 × 480 screen.
  • Depressing the Image key to test captured picture storage and image playback.
  • Pressing the Unlock key during an active intercom call to verify actuation of the connected electric lock.
